💛 May is National Cancer Research Month, and this one is personal.

I don’t share this part of my story often, but I believe it’s imperative that I do. I am a childhood cancer survivor. I am here today because of the advocacy of doctors who believed children like me deserved a chance at a full & loving life.

Did you know that cancer is the number one cause of death by disease among children, yet only 4% of the of dollars the government spends on cancer research is directed toward childhood cancer? 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday , and more than 95% of childhood cancer survivors will experience significant health issues by the age of 45 due to current treatment options. Children deserve better. Fund the research.

Today is my grandmother’s 80th birthday!!! ♡︎

When I was little, I used to rank my family members from favorite to least favorite, just to keep everyone informed of their standing (duh). I always made sure to clarify that I loved them all, even the ones at the bottom of the totem pole. But without fail, in every single ranking, my Nonni came in first.

Nonni, you still are — and always will be — my favorite (shhh, don’t tell the others). You’re the pillar our entire family stands on. You’ve taught us how to care for the world and every person, plant, & creature in it. You’ve taught us how to hold onto our beliefs no matter how small we feel, and to always fight for what’s we deem right. For that, I’ll be forever indebted to you. You also have taught me how to make the best cookies known to man. We are so lucky to learn from you and to have you in our corner. I love you so very much.
