After 15 years of only memories, I finally came back to my beautiful Damascus. A return that confirmed for me that these memories of streets wafting with the smell of jasmine and spices, the sound of thousands of mosques blaring the adhan all at once while church bells ring their answer, and the taste of food so rich are not over-romanticized recollections of my own love for this city, but rather solid realities of a civilization that survived 15 years of war just as well as the centuries of human interaction and empires that came before. There is a lot to be said, and even more to be done, but let me just leave you with some simple impressions of the beauty this city holds.

Nature dances between order and chaos, reflection and distortion...a fragile harmony always in motion 🌬💧🍃 by @sygerian

Five nights in the wild, one brutal 1,439 meter uphill climb; two legs screaming (or cramping rather), but the soul was charged over capacity.⚡️

I have already posted some videos as part of a Reel — so this one’s for the still photos. Just a glimpse into the views, the flora, the fauna, and the friends (it was extremely hard to choose what photos to share here).

Massive thanks to @ani_gashakagumti for making it all possible — and for the crucial work they’re doing to protect this place and give it a future.

There’s no place like planet home 🌍
What an experience it was to finally visit Gashaka Gumti National Park, a place that has been on my wishlist for long. From the wild savannah woodlands and rainforests, to the sprawling hills of the highlands, there was so much to take in. This reel is just a little idea of the flora, fauna, and scenery we saw on our journey. 🐒🏞
.
Grateful to ANI ( @ani_gashakagumti ) for making this dream come true and for the critical work they’re doing to revive this treasure before it’s too late.
.
Did you know?📍
Gashaka Gumti is Nigeria’s largest national park, spanning over 6,000 km² (almost 2x Lagos state!). It’s home to the country’s highest mountain, richest biodiversity, and even wild chimpanzees, yet, it’s one of the least explored places on the continent. 🐒🐍🐦‍⬛🦉🐜🕷🐞🍃🧭
There are many plans and ideas floating around for this park, and I can’t wait to see how it flourishes in the years to come. Follow @ani_gashakagumti to stay posted.
