Fai dúas findes xuntámonos na nosa primeira Asemblea da Mocidade no Rural Galego (Asilvestrados) e buf… que fantasía de días!
Xente de toda Galiza conectadísima e coa mesma paranoia: darlle vida e futuro ao noso rural. O resumo rápido de como foi o lío:
Venres: Montamos tendas, compartimos cea falando en 5 idiomas á vez e intentamos aprender os 21 nomes do grupo sen morrer no intento.
Sábado: Obradoiro de permacultura con Walter (xantar recollido por nós mesmos!), volta pola ecoaldea con Manolo, e a flipar co proxecto @heyits_thyme de Hanna e Julia. Pola tarde, ruta monte a través con Elena para falar de rewilding... e acabamos nunha fervenza brutal que nos soubo a gloria!
Domingo: Cero postureo, pasamos á acción. Montamos un grupo coordinador, fixemos rede da boa e acabamos movendo lousas para os tellados da aldea. Isto só acaba de empezar e cant@s máis sexamos, mellor! Se che mola a idea, queres achegarte ou simplemente cotillear máis, mándanos un DM sen cortarte

Two weekends ago we got together for our first Assembly of Youth in the Galician Countryside (Asilvestrados) and phew… what an absolute vibe!
People from all over Galicia super connected and on the same wave: bringing life and a future back to our countryside. A quick recap of how the chaos went:
Friday: We pitched tents, shared dinner speaking in 5 languages at once, and tried to learn 21 names without our brains melting.
Saturday: Permaculture workshop with Walter (eating lunch we picked ourselves!), a walk around the ecovillage with Manolo, and mind blown by the @heyits_thyme project with Hanna and Julia. In the afternoon, an off-trail trek with Elena to talk rewilding... and we ended up at an epic waterfall that felt amazing!
Sunday: Straight to action. We set up a coordinating group, built a solid network, and ended up hauling roof slates for the village houses. This is just getting started, and the more of us there are, the better! If you like the idea, want to jump in, or just want to stalk us a bit more, don’t be shy and send us a DM

Five years of Sylvester Weeks?!

Something bright and colourful is germinating on the horizon! 🌼 🐞🪻
We’re launching our Collaborative Intergenerational Wildflower Campaign soon and are looking for regional ambassadors to bring wildflower-powered, blooming biodiversity to your neighbourhood as well! 🐝

As a regional ambassador, you’ll work together with us and help people in your area turn ordinary lawns and green spaces into little wildflower havens for bees, butterflies and other insects.
You’ll be our local link: helping us coordinate and distribute native seeds, connecting with people in your community, and answering the occasional question along the way.

We’ll provide the seeds, information and support, you help get them into the hands (and soil 🌱) of people around you.

What happens when the eucalyptus is gone?

Before we start actively restoring our plots in Galicia, we wanted to know exactly what we’re starting with.

So this spring, we did our biodiversity snapshot: a biodiversity baseline documenting the plants, animals and fungi already making their way back onto the land. And honestly, we were pretty amazed by how much life we found. 🌿🍄🕷️🐦

Using iNaturalist, we’re creating a record that will allow us to follow the return of the fraga, Galicia’s native forest, species by species, year by year.

This is what rewilding looks like at the very beginning. 💚

Do 18 ao 20 de setembro, en Mañón, xuntarémonos para aprender sobre rewilding, permacultura e acción colectiva, compartir experiencias e imaxinar xuntas o futuro do rural galego.

Porque…Estás tamén ate os ***** de escoitar sempre o mesmo?
Que o rural galego é só lumes, eucaliptos e un monte abandonado sen xestión nin limpeza? E de aturar o conto de que a mocidade pasamos de todo, somos individualistas, ou pior, que tiramos cara ao facha? Pois vai sendo hora de cambiar o relato!

Our first Youth and Environment Europe General Assembly 💚🌱

Last week, we travelled to Prague for an inspiring week with the incredible Youth and Environment Europe network.

We kicked things off with the YEE Summer University, spending two days exploring what a just transition can look like, learning from experts, and exchanging ideas with young people creating change across Europe.

After joining the network back in December, it was amazing to finally meet so many fellow member organisations in person. It reminded us how valuable these spaces are, not only for sharing ideas, but for building friendships, strengthening collaborations, and shaping the future of the network together.

One of the highlights was pitching our wildflower campaign alongside seven other inspiring campaign proposals. We’re incredibly grateful that the General Assembly chose to support our idea, and we’re excited to bring it to life together with all of you. 🌼

A big thank you to @yeenetwork for organising such a thoughtful and inspiring week. We know how much work goes on behind the scenes, and we really appreciate it.

We’re leaving Prague with new ideas, new connections, and lots of motivation for the months ahead. We can’t wait to turn these conversations into action together. 💚

🌿 Meet the Team: Xano

@xanogz joined our Galicia team in November last year and immediately jumped into action.

Since then, he has led our participatory research project exploring how young people in rural Galicia experience climate and environmental challenges, helping us better understand how Sylvester can connect with and support the next generation of Galician rewilders.

Born and raised in a small village near Ferrol, Xano grew up with a strong connection to nature and the rhythms of the land. His path later took him across Europe, studying law, humanitarian action, diplomacy, and working in EU politics in Brussels. But over time, he found himself increasingly drawn back to the landscapes and knowledge systems he grew up with.

Today, that journey has brought him back to Galicia, where he combines his experience in policy, community engagement, and environmental action to help strengthen our work on the ground.

Alongside his work with Sylvester, Xano is exploring the restoration of native Galician trees on his own land and is passionate about reconnecting people with the ecological and cultural heritage of the region.

He also recently wrote a super interesting blog article reflecting on rewilding, identity, and what Galicia can teach us about living in closer relationship with the land.

We’re super happy to have Xano on the team and excited to see where this journey takes us together. 💚

Such a fun week at @adh_open_wellenreiten beginning of June. 🌈✨

Did a panel talk with @sylvester_rewilding and @wavesisters_surfcamps about a feminist perspective on surfing and the lineup culture, surfed my first heats ever, served coffee for Sylvester’s Rewilding project, commented the contest for the beach and livestream and ended up DJing at the prize giving. It could not have been more exciting.

Thanks so much to @sylvester_rewilding and @adh_open_wellenreiten for inviting me and sharing the stoke, on an off the water. 🫶🏼

We don’t just think in words.
We think in images, stories, memories, and associations. Yet climate change is often communicated through reports, statistics, and graphs that can feel distant from our everyday lives.

In her article, Visual Thinking: How to Tell a Story About the Climate Crisis, climate specialist and visual storyteller Mariam Kvaratskhelia explores how visual communication can help bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding. Drawing on psychology, art, and climate science, she makes the case that the way we communicate matters just as much as the information itself.

It’s a super interesting read for anyone interested in climate change, education, storytelling, or inspiring change.
