The APhF:26 Book Program extends beyond the duration of the @athensphotofestival_official

The 2026 APhF Book Program brought together photobooks, dummies, artist publications, and experimental publishing practices from across the world through the Pick:26 Award, the Dummy Award feat. Chose Commune, and Unfolded Chapters exhibition.

Following their presentation and submission to APhF:26, the books enter the APhRC Library, joining a growing collection of more than 6,000 publications dedicated to contemporary photography and image-based practices.

The transition from exhibition to research collection is central to the relationship between APhF and APhRC: publications encountered temporarily within the festival can continue to circulate through research, education, curatorial inquiry, and future public programs. In this way, the Book Program contributes each year to an expanding archive of contemporary photographic and publishing practices—one that continues to generate encounters long after the festival closes.

A huge thank you to all the artists, photographers, publishers, and independent presses who entrusted us with their publications and contributed to this year's program and to the continuing growth of the APhRC Library.

🏆 We are pleased to announce María Belén as the winner of the APhF Pick:26 Award for her photobook Belén, published by CESURA PUBLISH @cesura_

The APhF Pick:26 Award is an annual juried competition open to photobooks from around the world published within the past 12 months. The winner receives a €2,000 cash prize.

🏆 We are pleased to announce Katrin Lock @brothertonlock as the winner of the APhF Dummy Award feat. Chose Commune 2026 for her project The Waiting Room.

The award is a juried competition open to unpublished photobook projects worldwide and includes a publishing contract with Chose Commune, with production support by Future Format.

A line suggests order—it separates, contains, defines. It marks beginnings and ends, producing the illusion of structure. Lines That Do Not Hold begins where this structure falters. Across painting, photography, installation, and moving image, the artists approach the line as unstable and permeable, shaped by memory and embodiment.

Alix Marie anchors the exhibition in the body, constructing a ritualistic language around fertility and protection. Maryam Khastoo shifts this inquiry into the image, exploring displacement and interior rupture. Natalia Papadopoulou extends it into space, creating immersive environments that unsettle orientation. Kyveli Zoi gathers these tensions into oneiric scenes where bodies and landscapes merge.

Submit your photobook project by 28 April 2026 and be part of Athens Photo Festival 2026.

The APhF Book Program, curated by Sylvia Sachini, supports photobook practices through two awards and one exhibition:

🔹 Dummy Award feat. Chose Commune — one photobook dummy will be published by @chose_commune with production support of up to €15,000
🔹 APhF Pick:26 Book Award — for books published within the past year
🔹 Unfolded Chapters Exhibition — a curated group show of selected photobooks

Open to photographers and lens-based artists worldwide.

✨ The 2026 winners and shortlisted projects will be selected by the jury and exhibited at the Benaki Museum from 10 June to 28 July 2026.

This is your opportunity to bring your book into an international context — whether published or in progress.

@festivart.teens_ is a contemporary art festival showcasing the work of teenagers — organized by the teens themselves, with the support of @lab2art by the wonderful @zoi_pirini

Throughout the year, @misc.athens team worked closely with the teens to create their annual @young_yum_zin fanzine, themed Full Bloom. The zine will be available for sale at the FESTIVART shop from July 24–27, where their full body of work will also be on view.
