A series of self portraits “hair is an entity”. Hair has always been a close part of my identity. Whether it is long and rippling down my back, or cut with clippers and worn tightly cropped to my head. In many ways hair has as much of an influence over me as my environment does. Hair can serve as a barrier against perception. It’s easy for it to change the shape of your face, only show parts of your eye, and change your demeanor without you asking it to. In this series I wanted to manipulate my hair towards the gears of romanticism, gothic, unkemptness and dramatic. Things that are more accessible in characterizing when you are in partial hiding. The last self portrait I wanted to juxtapose with my hair being completely pulled back, leaving my face more vulnerable. My expression is meant to have an air of paranoia and more directness with the camera as there is no longer a barrier between them or the need for a theatrical angle. I love hair and all of the points of inspiration it brings to me! by @sylvialdwork

Bernadette lost her love to the pirates life. Buster now sails the endless sea. She remains his anchor pulling him to shore. But he is now unresponsive to her calling and Bernadette hasn’t seen Buster in years. The last time she did he was covered in barnacles and smelled like salty fire. She wants him home, but over time her feelings of longing have twisted to envy for a freer life and heeding the body’s call for exploration. She sees a boat on this foggy yellow morning. She might just take off. The ocean spray covered her brow with salty particulate. She had been standing there for much too long. The sea was starting to take her. by @sylvialdwork

Tile my world: peering down an avenue through floating windowsills. Each window is a tile. Tiling every street. I’m obsessed with tiles and where to put them. by @sylvialdwork

Holding tension in her shoulders. See discomfort in her unfocused gaze. She seems to be chewing on her tongue behind pressed lips. She likes the rubber feeling and the freedom to not say a thing. by @sylvialdwork
