This one’s a bit special. I do a lot of networking to meet business owners and entrepreneurs, and as someone who’s a bit socially anxious, I don’t particularly enjoy it. But that’s the nature of the beast when you run your own studio. One event last year was different though. It had nothing to do with Symbr, business, or design for that matter. Adriano (@adriano_desire) and James (@burns.jpeg), who run events as @ldngigguide , put on a night where a small group of artists and producers could share music they’d written themselves and get feedback from like minds. I went purely to share my other main passion and side project, and hang out in a room full of my people, listening to music. I don’t think I’ve felt so welcome and celebrated in a new group before. It was nerve-racking as hell, sharing my at-home recordings with these professionals. But it was such a great experience. We swapped socials and went our separate ways. A few months later, Adriano posted about needing help with a logo for a new idea. I jumped at it. Adriano: “here he is!” Enter, Release Assist, a music strategy platform that helps independent artists understand their data, forecast how a release might perform, and make smarter decisions around their music. Basically, sticking it to the man and giving artists the tools that have historically only been available to those with label backing. Quite serendipitously, it became one of my favourite logos I’ve ever designed. And somewhere along the way, clients became friends. It’s been brilliant to watch Release Assist grow from an idea into a fully fledged platform. There’s something that just feels good about being proud of your clients. Check ‘em out! Look, Mum, I’m on TV! 👋 Took me about three years to get here. Which is strange, because I used to document EVERYTHING. Band rehearsals, messing around with mates, gigs, travel stuff, whatever was happening really. At some point that just stopped and I became oddly self-conscious about it. Today felt different. Calm, for whatever reason. So here we are. Raw, first take, unscripted, unedited and looking my worst 😂 Probably exactly as a first video should be. It’s only up from here, right? More to come. Signalworks | Logo & Visual Direction Kinda wish this one was real! This is my concept logo design and winning competition entry for @barnardco ‘s Designerrrs™ community. Been holding on to this one for a few moons and finally got round to giving it a bit more of a world to live in. Yes, when I’m not designing, I’m designing 🤓 Signalworks is a strategic marketing and growth agency built around one idea: signal over static. Helping businesses cut through the noise, communicate with clarity, and make sure the right message lands with the right people. The idea was simple in theory, build a mark that looks like what they do. The wordmark disrupts a classic serif with an organic signal wave that forms the ‘w’, a visual interruption that represents clarity cutting through clutter.
