POSTS STORIES REELS

a couple of months ago I started a series of drawings based on the book of changes.

I decided to make sort of an abstract illustration to each hexagram from there. But it’s not very literal, you know. There are some connections, of course, between the drawings and the hexagram and its meaning, but they’re very vague and not obvious.

And I’ve been randomly choosing a hexagram each time when I would sit to draw a new piece. But I haven’t been tracking the ones that I’ve already used and the ones I haven’t used yet.

When I finished 32 drawings, which is like half of the list, I just took a moment to check them all and I found out that I repeated not only one hexagram twice but two of them. So yeah, I’m not in the middle of the road yet.

But it’s interesting to compare how everything has evolved during these several months. Actually, 1A was the very first drawing in the series. And 2A is also an earlier one, and 1B and 2B are the more recent ones, in case you were curious about it. The hexagrams are #50 — the caldron and #41 — decrease, respectively

Now I have made a nice table for myself where I cross out every hexagram that I’ve used and the ones that are still on the list. by @synesthetic_blackout

9 — the taming power of the small
the wind drives across heaven: the image of the taming power of the small. Thus the superior man refines the outward aspect of his nature. by @synesthetic_blackout

Every year, Impulse Awards invites a contemporary artist to build the ceremony's visual code from scratch. We call it Guest Artist: art meets business, and every edition looks fresh and unpredictable.

This year's Guest Artist is Alexey Kurbatov (@synesthetic_blackout), a multidisciplinary artist from Barcelona who explores pure form. His motto: "Music for the deaf." For the trophy he chose raw wood and added the maritime colors of Barcelona's port.

Swipe for his words on color, useless objects and ideas that must stay al dente.
