Can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been cookin up for Back A Yard’s 5th birthday in just a few days for @shambalafest 🥳 🥘

As you may know, our beloved yard is the brain child of the brilliant @riesh_tafari_ukjheeze and none of us would be here otherwise. This ingenious queen literally NEVER stops grafting and will stop at nothing to make every year the best ever for you and for us. On this note, we’ll be trialling *two new games* with some sick 🎁 up for grabs - so wine yaself over to Bashment Bingo and Dancehall Girls Dinner 💚 🖤 💛 🤍

Playing the finest dancehall, reggae and dub with my Back A Yard babes as always throughout the weekend, plus a bonus bassline + garage B2B w @keziahwallis at the roller disco 🛼 🪩 AND if you wanna get fckin loosey goosey to a Synthia special alphabetti spaghetti of whomping weird bassy bouncy bangers and flips from all over the Caribbean and beyond, meet me at the Yard on Sunday @ 9.30pm!🫡 (straight after the closing ceremony)

Ps. Swipe for a cheeky lo-fi 90s dancehall ode to Natalie Cassidy and Peggie Mitchell which will most likely make an appearance…(ty Mike @ Prime Cuts). by @synthia_spins

62 years today since Jamaica was officially* liberated from the violent oppression of British rule 🇯🇲

I say this with a star because actually, the remnants of those bloody colonial chains still linger. 400 years of slavery was never going to just vanish in a poof of smoke, although I’m sure many of us would rather forget it ever happened. Jamaica’s monarch is still technically King Charles, her economy is crippled and LESS THAN 1% of her beaches are accessible to the people of Jamaica. The rest are privately owned by resorts and developments for rich foreigners. If that’s not colonial I don’t know what is.

Never forget the people of Jamaica are a force to be reckoned with, big tree small axe. And we should still celebrate this very important date, which took place 1 year after the Bristol bus boycott. The incredible music and culture of the Caribbean has probably only been accessible to me as a result of colonisation and it’s a privilege to be able to enjoy it. My mum grew up going to blues parties in east London and am so thankful to her for raising me and my sister on reggae, ska, Motown and soul.

So anyway, MONOLOGUE OVER!

We’re holding a little shebeen at @thejamjar_bristol tonight- if you ever went to a blues party or visited Ajax’s legendary Shady Grove on Ashley Road (£2 red stripe for entry) then pop in for a trip down memory lane and tell us if we got it right! Tickets are cheap- link is in my bio. If you were too young get down anyway and let’s have a dance xxxx 🖤 💚 💛 by @synthia_spins

@weareterrain x @sugarandspicerave next Sat 25/07 at @thejamjar_bristol 🍬 If you haven’t been to a Terrain yet, you’re missing out- I think it’s one of the best nights in Bristol. The Sugar & Spice girlies are also top notch, they normally go strictly garage, bassline and happy hardcore. Both nights centre around some of my fave genres to mix but I don’t often get the chance to play them all together except at home! So buzzin to be on the lineup. I may throw in some uk funky, garage, amapiano, dembow, bruk and warped basslines but maybe I won’t who bloody knows! Ticket link in bio or just show up on the night x by @synthia_spins
