Now keags gets to continue his year while the runner will miss some time with a dislocated shoulder. 😎 by @torreawesome

Whether we wear the hat of skills or performance coach, our true duty is not to just simply exhaust athlete and get a million reps while preaching mental toughness.

We have to also address the mental aspect of it by providing information to our athletes in a manner that they can retain it so they can implement it when theyre on their own wether theyre at a game, practice, or showcase in this instance.

“In the event that you are having a ball moving to the side past your midline, you can implement shifts. A shift for a catcher is a small lateral movement to a side. If you see the ball moving to your left, you can shift your weight from the middle of your body to the left, having most of your body on your left leg mid pitch, allowing you to punch that ball back into the strike zone. The same applies to the right side.

This technique can and should be applied in primary, secondary, sliders, fastball, everything!” - @systematiccatching taken in The Athlete Project by @torreawesome

Are you a catcher or a parent of a catcher of any level? Good news, this applies to everyone.

“Shifting” is a vital technique that is underutilized for framing. When you’re receiving a pitch on the corner you should look to keep the ball inside your spine. Framing is a lot easier (and smoother) when you’re pushing the ball into the strike zone instead of pulling it in.

The main premise of shifting is to expand the zone. If you line up with your spine on the corner of the plate, any ball that crosses your spine is a ball. But if you shift an inch or two, and keep that ball inside the spine it’ll appear as if it never crossed the corner of the plate.

Once you set that up, you’re double shifts can begin to pop up. In double shifts you’re not only creating space by shifting away from the corner of the plate, but you’re also pushing the ball into the strike zone with your body. This will help sell the call to the umpire by inclining him to think the ball pulled you into the zone.

Always remember, framing is the skillset of keeping a strike- a strike. Once that is established, you can begin to pluck some balls into strikes here and there.

Continuing the outstanding concept of DONK squeezing when you do anything, here are three great exercises to implement into your program regardless of what you train for.

These incline bench will place your hamstrings in a lengthened position and your hip flexors in a shorted position. (Squeeze the #donk)

Laying down- make sure you press your pelvis into the ground by squeezing #TheDonk

Finally! The dopest one of the bunch. Use a very light band to commence. By placing your backside leg on the bosu ball or a foam pad, drive your hips into the front foot #Squeeze #that #donk and proceed to hamstring curl. Now you’re creating elite hamstring contraction from a shortened position which is rare to occur in a weight room setting.

Post ton of turkey eating everyone is heading to the gym and burn some calories off!

Oscillations are a phenomenal method to promote stability. And I for one am obsessed with them. The beauty of these varieties of exercise is that we can utilize them in rehabilitation, strength, and power phases. Hopefully with a coach present.

Give these a try! Let me know how you like them!

Disclosure: if you’re coming off an injury and are not cleared to exercise, please consult with your Physical Therapist or Performance Specialist if these exercises are a smart implementation for you. taken in TBT Training by @torreawesome

Volume up! 🔊🔊

Coaching cues are arguably both the greatest and most detrimental part of this industry. Most of the time the coaches are just repeating verbal commands they’ve heard before but don’t know exactly what they’re teaching. For some students and their interpretation the cues work. For others, it makes the game 10x harder and often gets blamed for not understanding. This happens in all sports.

Just because you feel something when you’re performing a certain move or skill, doesn’t mean that is exactly what’s going on.

Just because something is occurring doesn’t mean that you’re not feeling something different!

& just because you’re feeling and performing a certain action doesn’t mean that’s what the athlete you’re coaching is receiving.

Look at anything you’re teaching or being taught from as many angles as possible! Ask questions! A lot of them. Both parties. And if you don’t have an answer, seek it, buy @systematiccatching ! Or you probably shouldn’t be teaching it in the first place 😉
