An organization, aimed at increasing quality healthcare in (but not limited to) West Africa.

This holiday season, I want to do something meaningful for people in the Washington, DC area who may be struggling to make ends meet or who may not have a place to call home.

I’m raising funds to personally help provide some basic necessities and a little holiday joy to people who need it. The goal is to provide food, warm clothes, jackets, blankets, socks, toothbrushes and other hygiene items, gift cards, and other essentials to individuals experiencing homelessness and families going through a difficult time.

If we are able to raise additional funds, I would also like to help pay the electricity bills for at least three families. Winter can be especially difficult, and I truly believe that no family should have to sit in a cold home because they are struggling to pay their electricity bill.

I also plan to reach out to shelters and organizations in the DC area to see how I can help connect people who are open to receiving assistance with housing and other resources. If I can help someone take even one step toward having a safe and stable place to live, that would mean a lot to me.

I know that everyone is dealing with their own responsibilities, so there is absolutely no pressure to donate. Anything helps, even a small contribution. And if you aren’t able to donate, sharing this fundraiser with someone else would still help me reach my goal.

I’m hoping to make the holidays a little warmer and a little easier for people who may be going through a difficult season. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who chooses to support, donate, or simply share. It truly means a lot. Link in Bio💗 by @sythevision

For every one anesthesiologist in Africa, there are approximately 20,000 people across the continent. Behind that statistic are real people, families, and communities who face preventable complications and deaths because access to safe anesthesia, surgery, trained specialists, and appropriate medical equipment remains limited.

My goal is not only to become an anesthesiologist, but to use my position and my voice to help promote and strengthen the specialty in communities where the need is greatest. Many surgical conditions, including complications surrounding childbirth, can have significantly better outcomes when patients have access to timely surgical care, trained anesthesia professionals, and the necessary resources.

I recently joined the American Society of Anesthesiologists, an important step in continuing to learn about the specialty, connect with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and better understand how I can contribute to the future of anesthesiology.

As I get closer to achieving my goal of becoming a physician, I hope to expand this mission through my organization by promoting medical education, supporting charitable initiatives, and giving back to communities affected by limited access to safe surgical and anesthetic care. I want to help support families who have experienced the devastating loss of loved ones from conditions that could potentially have been treated with adequate resources and timely care.

My previous experience with the NIH and malaria research, including work related to placental malaria and vaccine research, allowed me to work alongside researchers and communities connected to some of these same global health challenges. That experience strengthened my belief that medicine is not only about treating an individual patient. It is also about education, research, advocacy, access, and giving communities the tools they need to build healthier futures.

This is bigger than a career goal. It is a commitment to the communities that shaped me and to the patients and families I hope to serve. 🤎 by @sythevision

Starting my medical school journey, while working tirelessly to further my efforts to improve the healthcare in various areas, is not easy. However, it’s the best decision I’ve done. As I know, that I am making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Hello everyone! My name is Yayé Sy and my ultimate desire is to deliver compassionate and understanding treatment that is inclusive to all.

I hope to open various clinics in underserved areas, primarily the Sub-Saharan African region where only 7% of the population has proper access to proper surgical procedures. The impacts of poor access to quality healthcare negatively affects one’s social determinants of health, which we must work against as a society, as quality healthcare can reduce disparities throughout the global healthcare system.

In addition to the surgical aspect, I will continue my activism against female genital mutilation (FGM), a merciless practice that violates women’s human rights and causes complications for the girls and women that are affected. The best way to end FGM alongside childhood marriage is through effective health education for those within these populations. Statistics have shown that educated mothers are less likely to subject their daughters to the practice. By creating mentor-led groups against FGM, I will encourage current leaders to pass laws against this practice, while educating younger women within these communities so that the practice will be denounced once and for all.

To that end, I will work relentlessly to ensure that underserved populations have access to timely and appropriate medical treatment. taken in Conakry, Guinea by @sythevision
