A inspirational day of workshops, discussions and heartfelt conversations about the work we do as black educators and preparing the next wave of teachers standing on the shoulders of those that came before us. In the last year, since I got back into dance, I have taken up tap dancing again. I haven’t tapped in 20 years and I’m excited to pick up where I left off. I miss Tap and I’m glad that we found each other again. Special shout out to my amazing tap instructor @morahrig @ncdancedistrict ❤️❤️❤️ #tapdancing #danceislove♥️♥️✨ #tapdancingcat by @t.shepmusic
I recently got back into my writing, and yesterday I performed a piece I wrote in 2021 while visiting New Orleans. I felt a strike of inspiration, and through that encounter my writing was ignited. Here is Shadows and The Refrain. @kamooremtbc @devpoetic Shadows By Terrance Shepherd I see you stalking me,
hiding in the shadows — Showing your face in each scene,
flashing your vibrancy,
ending in tragedy. Your blocks speak of the names
that have traveled through. Your silence is eerie,
unashamed —
fiends looking and locking
someone for their next high. Children of the night,
searching for someone
who looks just like you —
commonalities of despair and pleasures. Your streets are silent,
waiting for someone to call to,
delving into your mystic voodoo city
and Eve’s Bayou — The cries of souls,
lost,
while there’s the soul of the city
to cry too. Let Me Go Stop haunting me. I don’t belong to you.
Your shadows will not darken my existence.
I refuse to be engulfed by your mystic narrative of blues. I’m just another visitor,
learning your history —
the soup of your soul. Lurking in the corners,
You will no longer haunt me.
Hiding in the shadows,
You will no longer stalk me. The Refrain You left me uneasy,
discomfort unusually high. I was intoxicated, intimidated—
Your presence instantly filled my mind. Your visions left me feeling inadequate,
Your groaning voice brought no pleasure.
Yet you invited me in,
your melody whispering in my ear—
so bluesy, raw, honest, and true. The same refrain replays,
echoes its lyrics to me.
I now hear it, now I sing it—
Your song is part of me. A burst of inspiration struck my keys, cadence moving with the rhythm of your words.
I left feeling free,
Raw, honest, and confident in my art. And still your shadows follow,
but softer now, almost kind.
They hum beneath my fingertips. I long for more—
yet in their mystery,
I find the promise of light. Thanks to your invitation. by @t.shepmusic

It was a pleasure to reunite with my Hip Hop Orchestrated friend @dj_hugo704 from 2017 at the Creative Morning event. I also ran into @juniortigerrrr, @labodeguitaclt Michelle Fernandez delivered an excellent motivational speech on the topic of motivation, and Nyla Martin gave a phenomenal performance as well. This was such an inspiring and moving day. 2026 is all about intentionality and collaboration.
