Last night I had one of the craziest encounters of my entire life. This video takes place at the end of an hour long standoff with a very large black bear in the inyo national forest. I woke up to the sound of large branches snapping in the tree where our food bag was hung. I quickly became alert and notified Greyson Tiffany and Diego, the people I was camping with of the situation. Diego and I attempted to approach the bear while screaming at it to scare it away. The bear was way too used to humans and was seemingly not affected by us whatsoever. Now Diego and I are ten feet away from a bear that is not scared of us with no backup plan. The bear is eating our food. He turns towards us as we approach and starts walking increasing faster towards us. Diego and I had different reactions to this situation. He started walking back slowly and I felt that I had no way out but to hold my ground. With zero exaggeration the bear got within three feet of me, stomped both his front legs aggressively and growled. I felt a primal feeling I’ve never felt before where all the fear I had left me and it turned into an aggression i leaned towards him while he charged and stomped back at him while screaming at the top of my lungs with my arms out flexed. He stopped and stared at me. He’s three feet away and I’m face to face with a large healthy black bear making direct eye contact. There was a pause and he turned around and grabbed more food then walked away and started eating. That’s when I slowly backed out. For the next hour all of us stood on a large boulder while yelling at the bear, playing music and dancing and smoking cigars since there was nothing we could do. He ate all the food and backed off so we all decided to really try to scare him away. Luckily it worked. We heard him later in the night walking around our campsite but with no incident. Hard to believe I was three feet from a 350+ pound black bear in the back country 😳 by @t444any
