Design After Design is a series of five essays that interrogate design not just as a discipline, but as a site of tension, between intention and impact, aesthetics and ethics, creation and consequence.

Travelling from Romania, to under our laptops, across Indonesia, through social movement ecologies, and into the future, the series platforms imaginative and productive critical writing for a changing design world.

We invited writers to question, critique, and reimagine the design lifecycle: from BEFORE (the research, histories, and conditions that shape how things begin), through DURING (the processes, power dynamics, and decisions embedded in making), to AFTER (the systems, consequences, and lived realities that unfold long after launch).

🫰 Thank you to everyone who sent us their proposals for the open call! There was a real rush to the door in the final hours of the open call and we ended up with over 💯 submissions 🥰 Now the big work begins of reviewing all of your great ideas and eventually select the handful of people to commission essays from. We have no concrete formats – essays, reflections, research-based deep-dives, speculative or experimental non-fiction – if it’s rigorous, bold, and thoughtful, we want to read it.

Send us a max. 300 word proposal detailing your submission and a short bio. If you have previously published material, we would love to read it, so send us a link.

Contributors receive a fee of €350, we offer editorial support if needed and texts will then be published on our website and shared with the POST community internationally.

YG22 is open to creative people 30 or younger with at least two years of professional experience and a portfolio featuring amazing creative work in anything from advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography, filmmaking, animation and beyond. The final deadline for entrants to submit their portfolios is July 25, 2024. Don’t forget to submit your portfolio ✨🍒

TBT—when I had the opportunity to speak at @ladieswinedesign_oslo about how to find our voices and build confidence to share our work and professional opinions. I chose vulnerability as the main subject to discuss and how we can use vulnerability as a courage to find your inner voice.
