Floris Neusüss and Christiane Feser
Unique Works in Photography

Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Floris Neusüss and Christiane Feser, two artists whose practices expand photography into sculptural and materially inventive territory. Bringing together Neusüss’s pioneering photograms and Feser’s intricate photo-objects, the exhibition foregrounds singular works that challenge the limits of the photographic image.

Floris Neusüss, a pioneer of experimental photography, is celebrated for his rigorous exploration of the photogram, creating images made without a camera through direct contact between light-sensitive paper and objects or bodies. His works are distinguished by their immediacy, tonal complexity, and physical presence, making each piece feel both indexical and deeply atmospheric. In the context of this presentation, Neusüss’s works stand out as unique impressions that turn photography into a direct record of encounter.

Christiane Feser is known for her ongoing series of photo-objects, three-dimensional photographic sculptures that occupy the space between image and object. Her work transforms the photograph into a tactile, constructed form, often emphasizing surface, layering, and spatial illusion. Each work reads as a singular object in its own right, underscoring the hand-built quality and uniqueness of her practice.

Together, Neusüss and Feser offer two distinct but complementary approaches to the photographic medium: one rooted in the direct physical trace, the other in construction and sculptural transformation. The exhibition invites viewers to consider photography not as a fixed image, but as a unique object, a material process, and a site of experimentation.

Kate Petley’s exquisite exhibition ‘Penumbra’ is only up for a little over a week and we are already sad to see it come down.
It’s as if there is a light source within her photographs. Fascinating and powerful.

The exhibition’s last day will be July 18th.

The Art Institute of Chicago @artinstitutechi just informed me one of my AI-generated Polaroids is a promised gift for their Photography Collection! Having received my MFA from @saicpics a decade ago, this really is a full circle moment and I don’t quite have the words to describe how it feels. I am eternally grateful to @adustoflife for teaching me everything I know about analog photography including how to manually expose images onto Polaroids, my friend and mentor @deepfriedeast_mayumi for helping me keep my faith in the bigger picture during my time at SAIC, to @carlhammergallery for picking me up straight from the MFA show and giving me my first solo exhibition in Chicago a year later, to @cmkosemen who told me I should check out this experimental thing called Midjourney in the middle of the pandemic, to @palogallery for debuting this series in New York a year later and @vonlintelgallery for believing in me and for showing it in every photo-focused art fair in North America, eventually leading to this museum acquisition. Hey @polaroid can you believe this is all thanks to the Instant Lab? It is incredible how one experiment leads to the next... AI is an inevitable part of the photography conversation, and it is a conversation worth having. This is the second museum that expanded their photography collection with AI-generated imagery by acquiring my works, the first one being @leslielohmanmuseum and I am so lucky to be surrounded by such extraordinary institutions that believe in me. Thank you 🧿 by @t_von_lintel

Heading to the Getty Research Institute in LA (@gettymuseum) to talk about my recently acquired artist's book, "Atlas." Images and text by me 😊.

Thank you to Rachel (@rrivenc) and Lauren and the rest of the wonderful Getty staff!

The GRI Spring 2026 Conservation Study Day will be dedicated to Atlas, an artist book by Accra Shepp. Atlas is dedicated to exploring ways of knowing that transcend the dichotomy science-intuition, and to connecting them with folklore, dream myth and magic. Shepp weaves his signature photographic process of printing collotypes on plant leaves, and laminating them on paper, with poetry and language to bridge ancient stories of creation with contemporary ones.

The Conservation Study Days gather conservators, curators, archivists, scientists, artists, and others for informal discussions around the display and conservation of objects of particular significance in the GRI collections. On this occasion, Accra Shepp will be joining us to discuss the process of making Atlas and especially his photographic process, and the challenges posed by their display and conservation. by @t_von_lintel

Out and Proud - Happy Pride!

Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to present ‘Out and Proud’, a two person exhibition celebrating Pride Month through two landmark photographic series that document LGBTQ+ identity across generations.
Featuring vibrant color photographs from Chloe Sherman’s ongoing Renegades series alongside Anthony Friedkin’s historic black-and-white Gay Essay, the exhibition brings together distinct yet resonant bodies of work. Sherman’s portraits capture the vitality and individuality of queer communities in contemporary San Francisco, offering an intimate and affirming lens on self-expression. In contrast, Friedkin’s pioneering images from the early 1970s provide a rare and powerful glimpse into LGBTQ+ life at a time of profound social constraint and emerging visibility.
Together, these works trace a visual dialogue between past and present, highlighting both the progress made and the enduring spirit of resilience, pride, and community. Out and Proud honors the courage of those who have shaped queer history while celebrating the diverse voices that continue to redefine it today.

Come join us this Saturday ie tomorrow for the opening of Kate Petley’s ‘Penumbra’ at the gallery from 4 to 7pm. Parking here are Bergamot Station Art Center is easy and free. If you like this works from the images you are going to love them in person. We look forward to seeing you and Kate will be present.

Kate Petley’s practice turns light into structure, and structure into image. Working across sculpture, photography, and painting, Petley builds compositions that are at once materially precise and visually unstable, where the line between object, document, and illusion is elegantly undone.

Petley’s process begins with temporary sculptural arrangements of painted materials, staged in intensely lit environments and photographed at the moment of their brief, atmospheric existence. The resulting photographs are then translated onto canvas, where the image is reanimated through selective painted passages that are often nearly imperceptible. The effect is a surface that remains insistently flat even as it evokes a shimmering, holographic depth.
Kate Petley received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation award in 2025 and has exhibited nationally and internationally since 1988. Her work is represented in the collections of the City of Houston, Grinnell College Museum of Art, the Polsinelli Collection, the Howard Hughes Corporation, and others. She has exhibited at MCA Denver, FotoFest Houston, PhotoIreland, and the CU Art Museum, and has received a Ucross Foundation Fellowship and a NEA/Rockefeller Foundation grant. Petley lives and works in Peekskill, New York.

Some beautiful moments from a wonderful week at @aipadphoto in NYC. So very many smart, sophisticated people attended this most important photography show in the US. Huge thank you to Von Lintel Gallery and special shout out to the fine folks at @autophoto, an organization/museum dedicated to the preservation of film photo booths.
