@tabankarecords is a project founded by @mamademba_djset (River Ramos) and @henrique.silva.music. Originally conceived as a vinyl record shop, it quickly evolved into a platform for music production, creation and artist promotion, acting as a bridge between the past and present of African music, with a strong focus on Lusophone cultures, particularly the Cabo Verdean one.

Tabanka Records is one of this year’s COSMOS Embassies and co-curator of Sounds of Cabo Verde, a special program dedicated to the diversity of Cabo Verde music culture, its traditions and the Cabo Verdean diaspora in the Netherlands.

For this interview, we sit down with Henrique Silva, who gives us a primer on the many styles of Cabo Verdean music.

As part of @le_guess_who’s 20th Anniversary Edition in 2026, we present Sounds of Cabo Verde, a special program dedicated to the diversity of Cabo Verde music culture, its traditions and the Cabo Verdean diaspora in the Netherlands. Sounds of Cabo Verde takes place from 3PM - 10PM on Saturday, 7 November, at @dehelling.

Combining traditional and contemporary sounds, the program brings together internationally renowned legendary artists with local acts and a new generation of musicians. Sounds of Cabo Verde is curated in collaboration with @tabankarecords and @faroffa__.

During this event, FAROFFA will be serving Cachupa—a national dish of Cabo Verde which beautifully reflects the country’s history, culture and resourcefulness.

Amanhã, sexta-feira 10 de Julho, das 21h às 02h, celebramos toda a Noite Cabo Verde, suas pessoas, suas tradições. No centro desse encontro trazemos um festim de batuko, mais antiga forma de expressão musical e coreográfica, um legado principalmente matrilinear e património imaterial de todos cabo-verdianos.

Depois de um incontornável jantar às 20h com cachupa, barriga de atum, milho e espetos grelhados “à maneira", aguardem a maior roda de batuku que já assistiram, atravessados por raios de literatura cabo-verdiana, interpretadas por Vanessa Parish e Dela mantra, e ainda a poesia visual do artista Vincent Moon, em uma mostra de curtas realizadas nas ilhas de Santiago, Fogo, Santo Antão e São Vincent em abril de 2026.

Na ocasião, além dos grupos locais Finkapé, das Olaias e Bandeirinhas Panafricanistas, temos a honra de receber diretamente do Tarrafal, ilha de Santiago, o Iconico grupo Delta Ramanxada. Ao Final da roda, dancaremos no som do funana selectionado pela Tabanka Records.

Há mais de 18 anos que as Batucadeiras da Associação Delta Cultura, já icônico grupo de mulheres da cidade de Tarrafal, situada no norte da Ilha de Santiago, atuam em Cabo Verde e além-mar. Além de ser um dos mais vibrantes e apreciados projetos musicais na arte do batuque, ele é ramo vigoroso de uma infraestrutura social e educativa sustentável, que apoia mais de 400 jovens na melhoria da formação profissional e no suporte direto às famílias mais vulneráveis. For this mix entitled ‘Cabo Verde Frequency’, Tabanka compiled some of their all-time favorites from Cabo Verde, alongside some of their own contemporary compositions.

@buhrecords is an independent record label from Lima, Peru, founded by curator and researcher @luis_buh_records. The label is internationally recognized for its recovery, preservation, and dissemination of Peruvian and Latin American avant-garde and experimental music.

This mixtape presents a selection of music by young Cuban artists from the independent scene. Their work spans shoegaze, ambient, electronic pop, folk and beyond.

🪐 Announcing the 2026 COSMOS Embassies

COSMOS is @le_guess_who’s hybrid platform that highlights independent music scenes from around the world. Vibrant music communities from every corner of the map become COSMOS Embassies and share their stories—both online and offline—through mixtapes, films, live radio, conversations and performances. We’re proud to now share the COSMOS Embassies for 2026.

𝐍𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐃 (𝐎𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐚, 𝐉𝐏)
NAKID is a record label founded in 2020 by Koshiro Hino (@po00oq) in Osaka City, with its headquarter located inside the OTO Building. NAKID operates at the intersection of internationally active innovators of contemporary electronic music and the local scene deeply rooted in the rich history of avant-garde arts. Hino, an artist and composer also known as YPY, is the leader of bands such as goat (JP) and Bonanzas, one half of the duo KAKUHAN, and has been involved in many other projects, all while running the cassette tape label birdfriend.

𝐎𝐂𝐂𝐈𝐈 (𝐀𝐦𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐦, 𝐍𝐋)
The iconic independent venue @occii_amsterdam is the eccentric-looking wooden building facing the southern entrance of Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Since 1984—when it was squatted, then legalized in 1992—it has been a venue for underground music, film screenings and workshops, all rooted in DIY ethics. A home to all kinds of subcultures and collectives, OCCII provides a cultural program that is hand-picked for those drawn to a wonderful and wide range of subversive sounds and music genres.
