SATURDAY, OCT 10 — @estuardo4la Karaoke & Dance Party 💛

Join @littlesecret_la at @silverlakelounge for a night of love-song karaoke and dancing in support of Estuardo Mazariegos! Performers will sing LOVE SONGS in honor of our love for Estuardo. At the end, our judges will crown a winner!

Estuardo has spent two decades organizing in South LA. As Co-Director of ACCE, he’s helped pass the Tenant Anti-Harassment Ordinance, win the right of return for displaced tenants, and lead the fight for the Olympic Wage to raise pay for tourism workers. Now he’s running for City Council in District 9 to bring real representation to the neighborhoods that power this city.

His endorsements include Senator Bernie Sanders, City Controller Kenneth Mejia, SEIU-1000, SEIU-2015, SEIU-CIR, SEIU-USWW, UTLA, the Working Families Party, NUHW, and more.

This campaign is 100% people-powered. No corporate money, no developer money, no lobbyists. Just neighbors, workers, and supporters chipping in to help knock doors, print flyers, and turn out the vote.

Oliver Tree is the single hardest working, most inspiring person I have ever met in my life. I remember a night when we just talked for hours about art, it was the only thing on his mind, just making art. He didn’t give a shit about the money, the fame, or anything else that came with it, he just wanted to keep the work going and create the things that were in his head. In 2018 he told me that he had been touring so much that he didn’t even have an apartment, he just had all his stuff in a storage unit. It blew my mind that someone could stand being on the road for so long, being away from home for so long. I saw him last month and it was basically the same exact story. He had been traveling the entire planet making music and was living out of a suitcase. No car, no house, just the art. Just last month he held an album release party and invited 100+ people who were artists of a bunch of different mediums and showed us a feature film that he made before playing his album. After the screening he told us all that he might never release it, might not ever screen it again at all, and that he had no plan for it outside of just making it. He made it just for the sake of making art and felt like sharing it with friends. He told us that the room we were in had enough talent in it to shine a light across the whole world and encouraged us all to do the same, to just make art for the sake of making art. There are artists that come around once in a lifetime, and then there’s Oliver Tree. Oliver, my guy, as sad as it is coming to terms with the fact that I won’t get to see you again in this realm, I’m overjoyed that our paths crossed, that I got to bear witness to such a massive talent, and that I had the honor and privilege to call you a friend. I’ll see you on the next journey. OLIVER TREE FOREVER by @tabaskosweet
