“How was Honduras?”

I’ve been asked this question so many times, yet I still struggle to find the right words. Every time I try to explain the experience, my language feels too small for what actually happened.

This morning, for whatever reason, I decided to re-read Genesis. One of the reflection questions in my Bible asked, “But why would God create anything at all?” The answer: for His glory. Nothing more, nothing less.

I went into this trip assuming I would be the one serving and offering my time, my energy, and abilities. Never expecting anything in return… I was wrong.

The people of Honduras reshaped my understanding of why we exist. Their lives were a reminder that everything, every breath, is meant to glorify God. I met people with almost nothing in a material sense, yet their faith was overflowing. Their gratitude, their worship, their trust in God were unwavering. I was in awe of them, and kept asking myself “How can they praise Him so freely, so boldly, with so little?”

In the United States, most of us have every worldly comfort imaginable. We complain, we blame, or we simply forget Him. We miss so many opportunities to give God the glory He deserves and spread his love.

This trip taught me that if I accomplish anything in this life, I want it to honor and glorify the Lord, because that is the purpose of all creation, and the purpose of my life too. taken in Tegucigalpa, Honduras by @taber_gilbert
