Our Memaw, Glenda Lee Goforth McCauley, mom to my mom, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3. She was 82 years old. My sister and I share the middle name “Lee” for her sake.

She was the most magical and adorable little lady, one of the funniest people I’ve ever known! Smart, beautiful, humble, gentle, quick as a whip, a limitless wealth of wisdom and memory (what a gift). Pretty much everything she said delighted me. She always told me she prayed for each of her children and grandchildren by name every day, and just loved the relationships between all of us! She could do the splits into her 70s. My mom tells me she could make/sew anything and loved to tumble with my mom and her friends. She loved to talk on the phone. She wore crosses every day and kept them everywhere, and made sure I had more than one to wear around my neck starting from when I was very small. Glenda was a loving mother of 4 and grandmother to 8.

I know the joy of Christmas in heaven is far richer and more exuberant. That hope sweetens the bitterness of loss. But no one is ever prepared to lose someone so dear. Her memory will always fill the room when we gather.

The love of this Memaw is very special. ♥️ taken in Garland, Texas by @taber_tots

Ash Wednesday —

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
And you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Psalm 51:5-6

This is a photo of me in San Francisco in August. The following image depicts Joan Didion in Golden Gate Park in 1967, pulled from a piece called “Out of Bethlehem” by Louis Menand, published by the New Yorker in 2015. Didion was reporting on the story that would become “Slouching Towards Bethlehem.”

This the 31st day of January 2025, I started a Substack. It’s called A Little Bit Wrong. It will be my most earnest and honest attempt to make sense of my world through the written word.

It’s taken me years to find a new platform after Vsco did away with their journaling feature. I’d like to thank @seriouslyfunandflirty, my dear friend, for paving the way on the platform Substack.

Please follow along as I try to salvage what’s true from obscurity and obsolescence. I want my words to mean something. I am sick of meaninglessness. I want my words to cut down into the marrow of life. I want to write about what matters even if I’m a bit weak on being right, even if I’m a little bit wrong.
