Rating Matchas I had in Tokyo /5⭐️ Swipe to the last slide to see the cutest one 🐱 1. Maccha House ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My first Matcha in Japan (aside from Starbucks) and I was not disappointed. They have a great variety of matcha (although the language barrier made it tricky to choose) and the default is unsweetened powder 👌 the treats were also great. 2. The Matcha Tokyo (@the_matcha_tokyo) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was good, but their powder was presweetened. 3. The Cloud Club (@cloudclub_ginza) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great quality but the powder was presweetened. The queue was long but worth it for the cute setup. 4. Excelsior Café ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good quality, but presweetened powder. 5. Atelier Matcha (@ateliermatcha_tokyo) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good quality, nice options. Default is unsweetened 👌 6. Nakamura Tokichi (@nakamura_tokichi_official) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a renowned brand, and an amazing experience. No standard latte on the menu but we tried the matcha blended with ice cream, and an Usucha which felt very authentic. The treats were phenomenal. On the pricier side but worth it. 7. Hatoya ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Most tourists favourite and I can see why. Default is unsweetened and strong (iykyk), so you really taste the good quality matcha but it was quite rich. The add-on treats made for a good experience. 8. Gift (@gifttokyo_official)⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not over the top, just simple good quality.👌 9. Ippodo (Aoyama) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a wonderful experience. We did a matcha tasting which included Usucha, and we also had a matcha latte which was unsweetened and delicious. Beautiful shop and area as well. Closest I felt to traditional practices. 10. Hashira Café (@hashiracafe ) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Presweetened but good quality. Loved the whole atmosphere and the latte art. The staff all wear cute headscarfs. There are two I’m sad I missed out on - @matchapassport, and @wasachi_japan in Roppongi (they were closed for a few months). 🍵✨I decided to make an iced matcha latte with earl grey infused milk… it turned out beautifully fragrant and delicious! I’ve made earl grey syrup before, but I saw a lot of people doing it this way. Honestly, the infused version tastes totally different and it’s a better option if you prefer yours unsweetened. I think it would also be amazing with chai tea infused milk! I realise the colour of the final latte doesn’t look super bright green… I think it’s because I used dairy milk, and the cream would obviously lighten it too. Might try a little more matcha powder next time. Classic unsweetened matcha lattes will always be my favourite, but I’ve also really been enjoying adding a sweet cream top lately for a creamier, more decadent drink.
