How is it possible that 18 years went by this fast?!

Becoming your mom was one of the greatest gifts of my life. It changed me in ways I could never put into words. I’m so proud of the young man you are, and I can’t wait to see where God takes you next.

As the oldest of eight, you’ve carried an important role in our family. Without even realizing it, you’ve learned how to lead, communicate, navigate hard things, share, empathize, speak up, step in, and sometimes most importantly take space.

Growing up alongside foster and bonus siblings over the years hasn’t always been easy, but it has shaped you in ways that will serve you for the rest of your life.

I don’t post you often, per your request! and I honored the ā€œno Senior Sunday postsā€ rule. šŸ˜‚ But I birthed you 18 years ago, so I’m claiming the right to one sappy two-minute mashup to celebrate you.

Happy birthday, Eli!
Don’t be mad, @_g0ldsmith.
I love you so much. 😘

Days like today fill my heart.

House full of kids. Community traditions. Memories…

Like pink paint covering my deck, walls and bathtub šŸ¤£šŸ’—

But I wouldn’t change it, ready for the next one!

Easton scored his first high school soccer goal tonight at the Pink Arrow game!! Thanks to the Cooper clan for making him feel extra special with the post game shoulder pic! šŸ˜šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸ˜…

Ethan was pumped to serve concession snacks. And we squeezed in the first half (and Easton’s goal!) before our final Rapid Runner practice of the season.

Then we have our big 5k bridge run for Emery and the rest of our team of athletes with Down syndrome on Sunday.

Proud of these kids.
And my athletes.

WOW, happy 6 years of being a Goldsmih! 9/9/20

Truth talk- a big, unique, neuro divergent 10 person fam is not for the faint of heart. AND- I wouldn’t change a thing!

We got into GR today just in time to grab some Costco pizza and cake to celebrate now 6 years being adopted! 🄹

That 2nd to last video was during Covid, when WE had no clue paperwork went through. So my neighbor @katie.benn77 made the most special cake last minute, an you can hear allll the surprise and guesses.

God is good, in it ALL.

Whelp, now the bar is set for anniversary get aways! šŸ˜³šŸ„‚

Coffee by the ocean. Sea world to watch the most incredible orca encounter, pet sharks, and possibly get sick after a rollercoaster ride. (Why is it WORSE as I age!?) Ended on a positive tho with good friends and amazing sushi, then cold stone icecream because there is always room for dessert.

Happy 19 years to the man who changed my life. Loyal. Steady. Yet continues to pursue my heart. What an example of a faithful leader for our kids, thanks for being YOU.

Still can’t believe it worked out for us to go to California with Eli, who turns 18 next week! Combo celebration that wouldn’t have happened without all our friends and family who helped. šŸ„¹šŸ™šŸ¼

So many thanks to come.

The sunset was showing off. So was God. šŸŒ…

So much gratitude for the people who have made this trip possible as a family of 10. My heart is full and we still have 3 days! Much needed mental reset after this summer.

Funny how the book that helped change my heart 15 years ago still has a way of calling me out today.

James has been my favorite book of the Bible for years, and it still humbles me every time. Knowing even the half brother of Jesus, who was so close to him, still doubted until after the resurrection! That feels better somehow…

No matter how much I grow, the word never gets old.

Lately, even in relationships I wish felt easier, I keep getting reminded that pain can reveal things in me too. My need to be understood. My desire to fix things. My tendency to carry what was never mine to carry.

 pain is not pointless…

So I’m learning to ask less WHY GOD? and more ā€œwhat are You showing me through it?ā€ It brings hope, and for that, my professional sinner heart, is grateful! šŸ˜…šŸ™šŸ¼

Grief can empty a home while gratitude fills a table. šŸ’”šŸ™šŸ¼ā¤ļø

This is what we call life.

Said goodbye to my dad’s home for the final time last weekend. It sold in less than a day, closing in 2 weeks.
Praise God!

Early celebration of Grandma Fay’s 88th birthday with all the people who loved dad. They helped clean, haul, pray, support… then feast. I’m so thankful for each of them.

Then circling G&G Jorgensen’s table, playing cards making memories with the kids and being together. What a gift to have not only grandparents but 2 sets of GREAT grandparents they deeply love.

The highs and lows all woven together, with plenty of tears in between. I don’t take any of it for granted.

We don’t always get to choose our circumstances.
But we CAN choose how we walk through them.
Who we surround ourselves with.
What we allow our minds to dwell on.

And whether we look for the good even in the middle of the hard, or fixate on the problem.

Now that everyone is back in school, I realized yesterday was my first time alone since June 2, when Dad suddenly passed away.

There’s a lot to process, and I’m grateful for what feels now like a slower pace as we move into what would normally be the busy season of kids’ sports.
Funny what perspective can do.

Life can be painful and beautiful at the same time.

I’m learning to hold both.

True story… that doll is 40 years old and creeps me out every single time šŸ˜‚ My girls refuse to let me throw it away.

The quiet moments don’t stay quiet for long around here, but man… what a privilege to be called Mom. Couldn’t do it without my better half.

Seeing the headstone placed made it all feel a little more official.

I still haven’t been able to go through the funeral photos. It’s too soon, and there’s been too much happening. But this one of our hands 😢 and his favorite hat, that is in so many photos. I wonder if the sick feeling will always be there when I see his face. I can still hear that undeniable laugh…

Grief is hard. None of us will escape it. Just like many other hard things in life. What we do get to choose is what we think, ļæ¼in turn how we show up. There is a reason ā€œmind managementā€ (my term not biblical!) is woven all through scripture. Long before my love of neuroscience and human behavior. So I’m being patient with myself, but also grounded in truth because I can feel the darkness just waiting for excuses.

2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 12:2 and Philippians 4:8 are my favorites. We get to choose habits and discipline. To look for what is going well instead of focusing on the problem. We get to choose to love. And ultimately to serve with nothing expected in return.

Like my grandpa Tom who stepped in big time when my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He went from never cooking a meal to full-time caretaker, with a smile even!

ļæ¼My stepdad Dave who goes over to mow my dad’s lawn every week. Even with terrible arthritis in his hands lately, he refuses payment and says he enjoys the exercise. ļæ¼

My mom who spends time with grandma Fay nearly every day for yearsļæ¼. Caring ļæ¼for her, just like a daughter would. Except technically that is her ex mother-in-law! My parents divorced almost 40 years ago, but what a gift to witness these unique and faithful examples of true relationship.

I’m grateful for every family member and friend who has carried us through this season. More than anything, it’s reminded me of God’s goodness, even in the hard.

So give the hug. Spend the time. Make the meal. Stay a little longer. Choose connection while your people are here.

Tomorrow isn’t promised. ā¤ļø

HAPPY 81st Birthday, Grandpa Dave! šŸ„³ā¤ļø

So thankful we get to celebrate another year with you.
Family time will always be my favorite.

It was a long, sweaty day with my dad’s estate sale (added bonus day tomorrow, come stop in!)

But an amazing dinner and walking away from the casino with a little extra cash in my pocket, made it more fun. :) Not exactly my favorite place, but I’ll take the birthday celebration together!

Here’s to making more memories. Love you, pops!
