Ma, Mummy, Mumma, Mum, Mother….no matter how you say it, Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Exactly one year ago on this day, I was walked out on…not a word, not a hug, not a smile, no flowers, no acknowledgment….just intentional hurt with an aim to inflict as much pain as possible on my very FIRST Mother’s Day.

The year before I gave birth to my daughter right after Mother’s Day…. I endured the most excruciating pain a human can ever feel with an epidural that didn’t take for almost two days….it was changed out 4 different times. My body wouldn’t dilate bc I chose to induce to include him in her birth, but he had another plan. I writhed around in pain while my partner played video games and sat watching me from across the room for 36 hours in labor. He didn’t get up once voluntarily, until the doctor said it was time to push….he made every picture from then on out….when he had an audience.

This isn’t about being a victim bc as traumatizing as that experience was, it’s not the worst I’ve heard by far. This is about making a choice to choose you and your child, which more and more women are being demonized for choosing….but it’s necessary for our preservation. I made the choice to never allow anyone to make me feel that low again. And as hard as it’s been, I’m positive I made the right choice bc these moments wouldn’t possible without it. This post is not meant to make anyone sad or diminish the role of fathers….it’s meant to encourage women to choose life, to choose peace and stability, over societal norms created to control you in the hardest job on the planet.
