Thorpe Park had never seen such furious celebration in its 45 years of operations - Medhani Thorpe was sure of it. All eyes were on Hyperia as she glided gracefully through the crowds, laughing and chatting with everyone like a duck to water. Inferno hugged her proudly, tears of joy streaming down her face; Colossus took her hands and told her she was a wonderful addition to the Thrillmakers; Stealth and Swarm hi fived her and Saw smiled and gave her a thumbs up.

The party continued even later, after all the guests had gone home. Everyone danced, laughed, and drank to the health of the glorious Goddess of Fearlessness, and all the engineers and staff who had brought her to the park and made May 24th a success. Medhani was happy to smile and join in...but she couldn't help but feel a little sting that nobody had brought up her birthday. That is, until someone stood up.

"As great as today is, we're forgetting someone else. Someone very important. Can we all raise our glasses and give a toast to none other than the excellent Medhani Thorpe, on her 45th birthday!"

Forty-odd smiling faces turned towards Medhani, and the room exploded with such deafening applause that she thought her eardrums would burst. Xavier, the park's very own X://No Way Out of days gone by, stepped forward and presented her with a bouquet - "from all of us." They had been close-knit in the 90s, when Xavier was a big addition to a small park - if anyone would make sure her birthday wasn't forgotten, it would have been him. Medhani knew her eyeliner was running and her clothes were rumpled, but she didn't care.

I am so delighted to finally unveil Hyperia for real! More insights about her design will be highlighted on my story.

Hyperia stood on the podium, facing the sea of enthusiasts in front of her. All these people, come to see her. Come to celebrate her.

She felt her knees tremble and sweat pool in her palms as her eyes darted from face to face. Was that anticipation or impatience? Maybe a bit of both? What should she say?

How ironic. The Goddess of Fearlessness, who forged her own wings to fly among birds (or so the legend said), struck with stage fright. But she couldn't let it show. She took a shaky breath, and opened her mouth.

"You....look like you've all travelled very far. I'm told.... some of you were here at dawn, waiting for the gates to open." She paused, and cracked a grin, gesturing to the massive behemoth of white steel above the crowd. "Hmmm, I can't for the life of me figure out why!"

Her joke sent ripples of laughter through the crowd, and she felt her shoulders drop and the knot in her stomach untie. "Just look at all this wonderful work you've all done. The decorations, the dancers, the speeches, the themed donuts! I'll definitely have to try one of those later. And it...was all for me."

"I have very large boots to fill. I can see that. I know you've all waited so long. Holding your breaths, counting your prayers, biting your nails in fear. And I may not be what all of you were expecting," she laughed, pushing a black curl behind her ear, "but some say there's excitement in what you don't see coming."

"All I can say is, I am so glad you're all here. I am so glad we all had the courage to come out today, and share our passion, share our joy, and celebrate, as a community. Today is a big day. Let's face it with a smile, a bit of sympathy...and all our fearlessness."

The crowd erupted into applause, as Hyperia raised her hands in gratitude. The confetti cannons erupted and the smoke poured from the machines. Her heart soared out of her throat...as though it had forged its own steel wings and set out in defiant flight.

"I know you've all waited so long. Holding your breaths, counting your prayers, biting your nails in fear. And I may not be what all of you were expecting," she laughed, pushing a black curl behind her ear, "but some say there's excitement in what you don't see coming."

She had the crowd mesmerised as she stood there on the podium, golden confetti raining behind her. Her yellow eyes sparkled with wit, her white cape billowed gently in the calm breeze, her angular wings twitching ever so slightly. Everyone seemed to rise a foot above the ground, craning their necks to get a good look at this woman who would change Thorpe Park forever.

Behind her, Medhani Thorpe shuffled in her heels anxiously. 45 whole years of experience as a park and she was still wound up on her birthday. Her long-awaited dream had finally come true, it was everything she had ever hoped for, that was why she couldn't contain herself. Twelve years of waiting, of having to listen to her stepbrother, Duke Alton, snidely ask her when she was getting a new coaster, of wondering what a new coaster for Thorpe Park would even be like. All the Thrillmakers had waited too, bickering over who would get to mentor her (they eventually decided they'd all take turns). Who could blame them for being so excited? Swarm had pumped their fist in the air and cheered when they found out they would no longer be the youngest major coaster. Colossus clapped her hands in delight, Inferno couldn't stop giggling from excitement for a full week, and Saw, though he didn't say much, gazed up at the ceiling, starry-eyed, imagining how he could guide and encourage this new addition the way he had always been too shy to do before. Even Stealth, after he'd finished sulking about no longer being the tallest, declared he would pull out every stop in making this Project Exodus lady feel welcome.

Now they all stood bundled together on the podium, slightly out of breath after their supporting dance act, hanging on to Hyperia's every word.

#coastermaynia2025 is starting off strong with Sirens Curse at Cedar Point, new for 2025.

With her long burgundy curls and her spiny tail, the Siren is as mesmerising as she is deadly. She has led many a sailor to their death with her lilting melodies and alluring, otherworldly beauty.

My main priority for this year is to avoid burnout due to all my work and school commitments, so I'm dialing back rendering to focus on doing as many as possible and trying not to compare myself to others. I want to do what I can!

Light the candles, set the traps and stab a knife into the cake. That's right....it's Saw's Sweet 16! Happy birthday to this horror icon of @thorpeparkofficial ! Saw always finds his birthday a little embarrassing - all eyes are on him and everyone is giving him things. But as much as he's relieved when it's over, he does enjoy the sweet treats.

And today's birthday post is a double barrel! Because....it's also Oblivion's birthday, over at @altontowers ! I can't believe it's been 27 years since it opened. Oscar Owens seems scary, but is actually rather quirky and mellow. He loves desserts, and though he is a little aloof and awkward, does care for his fellow Secret Weapons. Happy birthday to them both! I would really love to introduce more of my SW characters but Thorpe Park will still have my heart above all.

Day 10 of #oc_toberverse2024 introduces 2 Alton Towers characters - Wicker Man and Th13teen!

The Wicker Man is a dark, intense and dramatic man. With a distrust of all modern comforts and technology, he is rather paranoid and skittish to many at the park - except for Theodosia, who he will defend with his life from any perceived threat.

Theodosia, on the other hand, is a quiet, wide-eyed and fearful girl who rarely speaks above a whisper and who is prone to wandering off into the Dark Woods by herself. She scares all the children's rides in Walliams World, and isn't receptive to Rita's attempts to befriend her, and as such feels rather lonely....until Duel and Hex manage to reach out to her and Wicker Man adopts her as a daughter. She loves mythology, cold weather and stuffed animals.

Day 8 of #oc_toberverse2024 features the adorable Inferno, greeting the guests at her favourite time of year - the Mardi Gras carnival! I love designing my characters new costumes, and the cute and colourful Mardi Gras outfits are always a treat to imagine. Especially when I can add idol inspired elements!

Days 6 and 4 of #oc_toberverse2024 are both great, but day 6 gets the spotlight this time. Why? Cause I'm introducing 2 new characters! Meet Rush and Vortex, the Lost City Sisters. Vortex is the brains (and beauty 😌), and Rush is the brawn. An inseparable and unbeatable duo, they help Colossus watch over the Lost City and all who pass through with a benevolent and caring (if at times a little mischievous) eye. Rush gets them into trouble, while Vortex gets them out of it! Well, most of the time....

On Day 4, we have the Introvert vs the Extrovert. Stealth and Saw are almost polar opposites - with Stealth being bold, brash and exuberant and Saw being shy, pensive and anxious. I think they both care about each other a lot despite this, and Stealth will always look out for Saw, especially on busy days. "I better see you drinking some water, cause it's hot out! Here, I grabbed you a snack too. Keep your energy up!"

For day 3 of #oc_toberverse2024 , I decided to omit the Antagonist, as I don't really have an antagonist who isn't also a villain. (Maybe I should make one...)

Instead, I decided I'll only draw the Protagonist....the lovely (?) Lucille. Obsessed with Victorian fashion and aesthetics, she is deeply distrustful of those around her, and that combined with her sense of superiority leads her down a rabbit hole of paranoia and vigilante justice, culminating in an incident involving a greedy loan shark, a telephone cable and strangulation. Or did it? Lucille can't remember it at all. She swears down that she's innocent, she's the one in the right, the only truly pure and good person left in this rotten world.

I decided not to shade this piece, instead focusing on colour and contrast. I hope you like it.

Day 2 of #oc_toberverse2024 is a little darker. For Hero Vs Villain, I chose two older OCs.

The Hero, Project 100, is actually a tragic minor character who dies before the main plot of an AU my sister @wastedchaos and I made back in 2017. A genetic experiment magical girl gone wrong, 100 had a cute orange blossom design and is the predecessor of our main character, Project 101. However....there's a reason I remember Project 100's appearance and not Project 101, so I gave her the upgrade to honorary main character.

As for the Villain...hoo boy. Simia is a character born from my Plague Inc obsession back in 2015/16. I wrote a manga about them all, but the plot rapidly went off the rails after I became a huge fan of Yandere Simulator (I know, humiliating, but I was 11) and Simia rapidly morphed into a lovesick slasher villain. The black dress is pulled directly from Mirai Nikki. As much as I hate the yandere trope now, she kinda ate.... Thankfully, these two are not in the same universe, so 100 is safe. But if they ever met, I'm sure Simia would gleefully butcher poor 100 if it meant having her crush's love all to herself.

Tada! I'm trying to do another challenge - the amazing @retrowave_racer 's #oc_toberverse ! I'm going to be revisiting tons of OCs from several years back, fleshing them out and maybe even bringing back some REEEALLLY old ones. Hopefully I can get at least a sketch out every day between all the work I'm doing!

First of all, we have Old vs New. For the Old OC I decided to revisit my first ever guys, the Flygirls I created back in 2011! They were magical girls with ribbons on their arms that they could fly with, and they were all rainbow coloured - the sweet and plucky Pippa was the red one. I always had a soft spot for her.

Then, New. I visited Alton Towers for the first time this year and was blown away by Nemesis:Reborn and all the rest of the park. So beautiful and atmospheric! I decided to feature Nemesis:Sub Terra's alpha design - a tough Phalanx soldier. I want to draw her more. I think she'd be great friends with Nemesis. Hope you enjoy this unlikely crossover!
