Losses like this hit teammates hard, especially the ones who were there. Make the call. Send the text. You don't need the right words, and you don't have to be okay to answer. If you or someone you know is struggling, the Veterans Crisis Line is 988, then press 1. U.S. Air Force photos by Staff Sgt. Every TACP who calls in close air support learned it from someone. Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson was one of those instructors, training the next generation at Det. 2, 6th Combat Training Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio. In 2022 the Air Force named him Special Warfare Enlisted Instructor of the Year. The Airmen he trained carry his work forward. Tech Sgt. Ian Patterson was from Fort Stewart, Georgia, about 30 minutes from Nine Line HQ in Savannah. Ian spent 15 years serving and leading with honor in the United States Air Force while building a family with his wife, Niki, and their two boys. Fellow Air Force TACP Jared Taylor designed this memorial t-shirt with Niki’s guidance. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to the TACP Foundation, helping our community secure a future for the Patterson family. by @tacpfoundation
The Givebutter campaign has been an absolutely incredible display and outpouring of support for the lan’s family and our commitment remains that 100% of those funds go directly to the family. We’re asking you to now help in supporting the TACPs left behind who also need support through this event. Purchasing a shirt is a meaningful way to help. ALL proceeds will go to the TACP Foundation and our efforts to support those teammates left behind. Our brotherhood shows up for one another, and we’re grateful to @jtarticle15 and @ninelineapparel who created an incredible design for this effort. Please consider buying a shirt and sharing with your networks. https://www.ninelineapparel.com/collections/patterson • #support #tacp #jtac by @tacpfoundation
On behalf of the TACP Foundation, I extend our deepest condolences to TSgt Ian “Patty” Patterson’s family, his teammates, and the operators of the 6th Formal Training Unit, Detachment 2. We grieve with you, and we STAND with you. To everyone who has rallied around the Patterson family: THANK YOU. Your compassion and generosity is what community looks like when it matters most. Air Force Special Warfare Tactical Air Control Party (AFSPECWAR TACP) operators shoulder extraordinary responsibility. Agnostic of commands, units, flags, and patches, they orchestrate American and Coalition combat power, putting bombs on target, and helping bring their teammates home. Their defining qualities include courage, judgment, and a fierce tenacity to solve the problem when others are counting on them. They are the ones called upon to stand side by side famously known warfighters and are often summoned by saying “Hey, Air Force” or more populary used “Hey, JTAC” to safely integrate a myriad of air, land, sea, and now space assets into a complex and kinetic fight. The TACP Foundation exists to stand behind this community: supporting TACP Airmen, Veterans, and their families by honoring our fallen, and standing with those left behind. Our mission continues long after the headlines fade. As we honor Ian, I ask everyone to give his family and teammates room to grieve. Please refrain from sharing, commenting on, or publicly dissecting the video. Freedom of speech is a right I defend; compassion and restraint are choices I ask us all to make. Speculation and cruelty deepen the pain of people already carrying an unimaginable loss. Our mission is not over. Check on a teammate. and visit the TACP Foundation website to learn how you can support our continuing work for TACPs and their families. https://tacpfoundation.org/ Ian, we honor you as a loving father, a leader, and a brother in arms. We will carry your memory forward by standing shoulder to shoulder with your family and your teammates through the days ahead. Rest in peace, brother. Your family will not walk this road alone. #support #tacp by @tacpfoundation
Many of you have reached out asking how you can support the family of the TACP Airman we lost in last night’s tragedy at the Alamodome. At the family’s request the name of service member is being withheld. In response to that outpouring of support, the TACP Foundation has established this fundraiser. The family has not requested donations; this is our community’s effort to offer support during an unimaginably difficult time. All net proceeds will go directly to the family to help with expenses and the months ahead. If you are able, please consider giving. Sharing the campaign is another meaningful way to help. Above all, please keep his family, loved ones, and teammates in your prayers and respect their privacy as they grieve. Thank you for showing up for one of our own and for the people he leaves behind. Donate or share: https://givebutter.com/tacp-family 👆This link will also be in our Bio. #prayers #support #tacp by @tacpfoundation
T-shirts coming soon! by @tacpfoundation
Airmen from the 116th ASOS teamed up with Army Green Berets from the 1st Special Forces Group at JBLM. Sharpening skills and figuring out new ways to make life miserable for the enemy. Different branches, but same objective. Train. Stay lethal. 📸 @usarmy photo by Staff Sgt. John Bae @usairforce @airnationalguard #tacp #jtac by @tacpfoundation
TACP enlisted Airmen were authorized the black beret in 1979. The distinctive flash and crest followed in 1985. But the lineage goes back much further, with TACPs operating alongside ground forces during the Korean War. Wearing the black beret means you are the expert in calling in air strikes and providing the team with the firepower they need for continued success on the battlefield. We say congrats to the United States Air Force EOD on earning a symbol of their own (rust colored beret). 🫡 The Strong Shall Stand. 📸: @usairforce photo by Staff Sgt. Brigitte N. Secretary Pete Hegseth showed up at the United States Air Force Academy for early morning PT wearing the most amazing t-shirt. No snooze button. No excuses. The Strong Shall Stand! Now get to work! 💪 📸: United States Department of War #tacp #jtac #secwar @usairforce @deptofwar by @tacpfoundation
Friday’s here. Some people are coasting into the weekend. TACPs are taking the road less traveled, but we’ll get there. Whatever your weekend looks like, hold on tight and trust your team. Eagle Flight is almost to the goal line. As they complete their final field exercise before donning their berets on October 8th, we welcome them into the TACP community. They got comms setup and are ready to execute some missions. Can’t wait to see everyone at the Graduation Banquet. 🇺🇸 • @usairforce @airnationalguard #tacp #jtac #communications @specialwarfaretw by @tacpfoundation
