living out my Lord of the Rings dreams through my daughter while she still lets me 🤍

i knew i wanted to do a hobbit costume this year, but i also wanted to find pieces that i actually loved and that she could keep wearing after Halloween. these are all from @nuvemthelabel and i am genuinely so excited for her to wear them again.

i made the cloak with my mother-in-law and somehow found the perfect green fabric at Hobby Lobby almost immediately. add a little Lorien leaf, the one ring on a chain, and suddenly she is ready to save Middle Earth.

technically she’s Sam in our family costume, since Lucy is Frodo and I’m Shelob. Adam is Gandalf, obviously.

anyway, this is probably the last Halloween where Ruth won’t have much of an opinion about what she’s wearing, so I had to take advantage. 😂

After writing one song for his wife at Man Camp, my father-in-law decided to write one for every member of the family!

he managed to make each one so specific to the person, which made this one especially fun to hear. very grateful for in-laws who know and love me🤍

more aware of the little things this time around🤍

with ruth, i was always so focused on what she was doing next. with lucy, i feel like i’m noticing all the tiny things in between a lot more. like discovering her toes and being completely fascinated by them 😂

maybe that’s just the second baby effect.

almost two, and Ruth is teaching me to slow down and enjoy the little things. every walk takes a little longer, every errand turns into its own little adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

today we were walking from a bakery date with her auntie to the car and the solution to dragging her shoes on the pavement was encouraging dramatic stomps seen here😂

farmers market morning with ruth 🍅

went to the lafayette farmers market with ruth while pregnant with lucy and we picked up some of the prettiest produce. radishes, heirloom tomatoes, fresh asparagus, and berries. my ideal saturday morning🤍

saturday spoils at the farmers market 🍅

went with ruth almost every Saturday in my last month pregnant with lucy and came home with heirloom tomatoes, radishes, asparagus, berries… and a pastry, obviously.

one of my favorite ways to spend a saturday morning.

i think this might be the most beautiful place i’ve ever been. 🤍

we took a cable car up into the Swiss Alps while traveling together, and found ourselves surrounded by the greenest hills, little streams, a waterfall cascading down the mountainside, and cows wandering around with their bells ringing.

i was pregnant with Ruth on this trip, and this is one of those places i can still picture so clearly.

Lucy’s birth story 🤍

Pt. 1
The weeks leading up to her due date, I honestly wasn’t stressed about going into labor. That changed on June 11th when I started having contractions that felt very similar to my labor with Ruth. I called my mother-in-law to come from Utah, Adam and I went to bed expecting to go to the hospital overnight…and then I woke up at 3 a.m. to my MIL and SIL arriving at our house and my labor having completely stopped. 😂

The next morning I curb-walked our neighborhood for an hour out of pure desperation. All I got was sore muscles and zero contractions.

For the next week, I had contractions every night that would eventually stop. The day before I went into labor, I was so ready to be done that I did Just Dance for an hour.

Then Sunday, June 21st, at 1:35 a.m., I woke up to a gush of fluid.

I wasn’t sure if my water had broken(spoiler it did) or if I had just peed myself🤪, and I really did NOT want to call my mother-in-law again for another false alarm. So I called the midwife, who told me to monitor things, and went back to sleep.

At 3:15, I woke up with some contractions. They weren’t anything crazy, so I thought I’d go back to bed.

Fifteen minutes later, they got INTENSE.

This labor was completely different from Ruth’s. Hers built gradually throughout the day. Lucy’s came on hard and fast, and I was doing everything I could to stay calm.

I had planned for another unmedicated birth, but I was also carrying a lot of fear from my afterbirth experience with Ruth. I had retained my placenta and needed an operation, all without pain medication, and it was traumatic.

So when things got intense so quickly, I realized I was struggling to stay in a good headspace. Around 4-ish, I woke Adam up, called my mother-in-law, and told her this was actually happening.

By around 5:30, we headed to the hospital. We arrived around 6 and I was already dilated to a 7. I decided I wanted the epidural, and it was placed around 7:15.

A few weeks ago, we welcomed our second baby girl, and this summer has been spent soaking up every minute🤍

As we prepared for her arrival, I intentionally kept my calendar light, and now I’m so excited to get back behind the camera. My first wedding back is just a couple of weeks away, and I genuinely can’t wait📸⛰️

Motherhood has only strengthened the way I approach my work. It’s made me more intentional, more present, and even more inspired by life. I care deeply about creating photographs that feel intimately you because I know how quickly life changes and how meaningful these memories become.

I’m so excited for everything this next season holds from celebrating with my couples, documenting growing families, and traveling throughout Colorado, Utah, California, and beyond.
