𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴, a first glimpse of the Swiss Pavilion at the 16th @gwangjubiennale.

Artist and scholar @denisebertschi has been developing a research project on Switzerland’s presence in the demilitarised zone that divides the Korean Peninsula (DMZ) since 2013. For the exhibition, Denise Bertschi presents the archival material - photographs and films taken by Swiss soldiers between 1953 and the 1970s - in Korea, its site of origin.

On entering the pavilion, visitors walk through a suspended textile installation. Further inside, photographs, films and historical documents are assembled through Denise Bertschi’s practice of montage. The exhibition culminates in an interactive Debating Room. Here, visitors are invited to read, watch, write and contribute their own responses to the archive. Over the course of the Biennale, these contributions will become part of the installation itself, transforming the exhibition into an evolving archive shaped by contemporary voices.

🎉 Join us tomorrow 5 September at 17:00 KST to celebrate the opening. The ceremony will be held jointly with the Austrian Pavilion, commissioned by @phileas.art – The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art.

Mai-Thu Perret, “Othermothers”
26 March – 26 July 2026, 26 March – 26 July 2026
Centre culturel suisse. Paris

Since the late 1990s, Mai-Thu Perret (born in 1976, lives and works in Geneva), has engaged in sculptural and theoretical research, interweaving historical and cultural references, alternative feminist narratives, and diverse technical expertise.
“Othermothers”, the artist’s first institutional exhibition in Paris, transports us into a cosmic space-time continuum: a matrix universe populated by powerful divinities and mischievous creatures conjures a chimerical history of representation, introducing a new genealogy of goddesses. Moving from sound to ceramics, from bronze to neon, from tapestry to blown glass, the artist hybridizes materials and mythologies.
Attesting a perspective both critical and spiritual, “Othermothers” summons new dissident cosmogonies and the possibility of a contemporary chronicle that is mutant and sororal.

Ingeborg Lüscher, “Flammes”
26 March – 26 July 2026, 26 March – 26 July 2026
Centre culturel suisse. Paris

From sulfur to ashes, from embers to wreaths of smoke, “Flammes” explores the vitality of fire and its creative and unruly force.
In retracing the practice of Ingeborg Lüscher (born in Germany in 1936, lives and works in Ticino), the exhibition reveals the relationship with conflagration that the artist has been developing since her first experiments up to this day. In the late 1960, Ingeborg Lüscher began a course of sculptural, pictorial, and performative research that has never ceased to preoccupy her. She also deploys a unique photographic practice, documenting her close family and friends, her encounters, and the landscapes she traverses on voyages or in her daily life. Since 1975, the artist has also composed conceptual and autobiographic works revolving around chance, love, and dreams.
“Flammes” explores the heat of a rich artistic career sustained by a continual quest for transformation, as well as by a profound interest in material, bodies, and cycles of destruction and renewal, of absence and rebirth.

Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah, “no flowers”
26 March – 26 July 2026
Centre culturel suisse. Paris

The first monographic exhibition in France of Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah (born in 1990, lives and works in Zurich), “no flowers” unfolds around absence, mourning, and the violence embedded in medical and technological systems.
The exhibition brings together a central piece from the body of work “DELIRIUM”, initiated in 2022, and the chapter “no flowers”, developed around the artist’s book of the same title, copublished with Centre culturel suisse. If “DELIRIUM” marked a moment of destabilization—where the portrait of the artist’s father entered a generative process of distortion—"no flowers” shifts toward an act of holding.
Camera-exposed photographs of dried bouquets form the material basis of the project. In 2022, a limited number of these images were processed through an image-to-image generative system without text prompts, producing visual mutations that were subsequently translated back into negatives and printed in the darkroom.
Interspersed throughout are fragments from the medical history and clinical synopsis of the artist’s father, authored by his final treating physician in Accra. Rendered as images through contact-printing, this clinical language—precise and procedural—reappears as physical matter. The repetition of flowers, sometimes intact, sometimes altered, accumulates around the figure of the father as a belated gesture: not closure, but attendance.
Between destabilization and insistence, no flowers proposes a space in which image becomes a form of holding—where disappearance is resisted not through explanation, but through material return.

Déplier les mondes
Labanque, Béthune, May 23 - November 15
@labanque.bethune

Through tunnels and underground passages, the works invite visitors to encounter matter. Together, we travel through stories of mountains coming to life, encounters with spirits and mining revolts—the breath of asphalt, oil, and coal. In a second chapter, located on the fragile border between collective mythologies, theories of an alternative world, and scientific fiction, Déplier les mondes addresses contemporary mining policies, the voices of resistant lands, and the sound vibrations of humus. The exhibition showcases artists who think, create, and produce from underground spaces. Their works compose a chorus of dissonant voices, whose song nevertheless reaches us when we, like them, put our ears to the ground.

Déplier les mondes
Labanque, Béthune, May 23 - November 15
@labanque.bethune
@valentine.umansky

Organized in two chapters, Déplier les mondes offers a journey between “solid ground” and “the mine”, inviting visitors to descend into darkness. Invoking kaleidoscopic, cosmic visions and the languages of the unconscious, the “solid ground” places the work of Augustin Lesage in dialogue with those of other artists, focusing on the myths they reference, particularly that of Agartha. This legendary kingdom, said to be located underground, reappears under various names in different parts of the world. The story goes that, in order to preserve peace, knowledge, and global balance in the face of imminent conflict, humans took refuge underground, digging long tunnels and creating a new civilization in the bowels of the earth. From there on, the ground crumbles beneath our feet...

Déplier les mondes
On view at Labanque, Béthune, until November 2026
@labanque.bethune
Curated with my dear @valentine.umansky ❤️‍🔥

“It was in January 1912 that powerful spirits came to me, commanding me to draw and paint, something I had never done before”.
Augustin Lesage (1876-1954), a miner since the age of fourteen, was underground when he heard this voice speaking to his ears. From there began a long career as an artist. In his paintings, uniquely and meticulously composed, dense, multicolored architectural worlds unfold. Imbued with a powerful syncretism, his works read like cascades: upon looking, the viewer is transported into a second, deeper plane, buried within the first; complex systems that multiply ad infinitum.

This is the starting point of Déplier les mondes. Spread across three floors, the exhibition explores the physical, symbolic and spiritual possibilities of parallel universes, the fruit of mining, ore and hollow earth; superimposed space-times, as if the universe was folded onto itself, like a thin layer of paper. Stemming from a journey through the painting practice of Lesage, the exhibition invites visitors into these tunnels of ink and coal mirroring our world; universes within universes, like a B side to the disc.

« Écrire des histoires de fantômes implique que les fantômes soient réels, c’est-à-dire qu’ils produisent des effets concrets. Imputer une sorte d’objectivité aux fantômes suppose que la dialectique du visible et de l’invisible, selon certains points de vue, s’engage dans une négociation constante entre ce qui peut être vu et ce qui reste dans l’ombre. Pourquoi voudrions-nous écrire de telles histoires ? »
