Ukraine resumes strikes on Russian oil refineries after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused the U.S. of withdrawing support critical to Kyiv’s defense against Russia.

Ukraine paused attacks for three days after President Trump’s unilateral “energy ceasefire” announcement, but accused Russia of repeatedly attacking its power grid.

Trump last week struck a diesel deal with Russia, demanding Ukraine stop targeting Russian oil facilities, and called for Zelenskyy to be replaced as leader.

These developments have fueled confusion in Ukraine over continuing U.S. support for its war against Russian invaders.

These fears grew in recent days as Ukraine said it was facing the slowing down of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite terminals, disrupting battlefield missions and its ability to intercept Russian drones. Satellite internet functionality was partially restored Thursday, Ukraine says.

Over the past few years, several big-name food companies have either left California or partially moved operations to states some consider to be more business-friendly, meaning lower corporate taxes or overhead costs. Among them is Ruiz Foods, the largest frozen Mexican food manufacturer in the country, which moved its headquarters to Texas in 2024 and recently cut 176 jobs at its Dinuba plant in the Central Valley. The world’s largest mozzarella cheese supplier, Leprino Foods, similarly closed its 115-year-old processing plant in Lemoore in early 2026 and has moved much of its operations to a plant in Lubbock, Texas.

Even beer giant Anheuser-Busch closed its 170-acre Budweiser plant off I-80 in Fairfield in February, impacting nearly 240 workers and leaving its Los Angeles plant as the only remaining one in the state.

One historic food company is bucking the trend, though, by doubling down on its production in Southern California for the foreseeable future.

Juanita’s Foods, the 80-year old grocery store staple, has decided to stay in the Golden State after an extensive search into other potential locations. Founded in Wilmington, the familiar brand plans to relocate to a new 120,000-square-foot facility in Santa Fe Springs, an industrial city in southeastern Los Angeles County.

Known for its throwback label and array of Latino home cooking classics like hominy, pozole and chile verde, Juanita’s is perhaps most famous for its top-selling, Mexican-style canned menudo, which, like LA salsa brand El Pato, has a devoted California following.

The company’s decision to stay relied on the 2025 formation of the Big 4, a coalition between the adjoining cities of Commerce, City of Industry, Santa Fe Springs and Vernon.

Chefs Against Fascism Everywhere (C.A.F.E.) is a nonpartisan initiative founded by chef Sean Sherman (The Sioux Chef) that mobilizes restaurant owners, culinary artists, and food service workers around civic participation and voter turnout.

Key Details & Campaign Focus
* The Name (“86 Fascism”): In restaurant slang, “86” means to remove an item from the menu because it is gone. The movement uses the term to call for cutting fascism, authoritarianism, and racism out of public life.

* National Action Day: C.A.F.E. is organizing “86 Fascism Day” on Monday, October 26, 2026—eight days before the midterm elections.

* The Call to Action: Restaurants, chefs, and allies across the country are encouraged to host dinners, potlucks, or staff meals (such as the flagship event at Indigena by Owamni in Minneapolis) to check voter registrations and help workers make a plan to vote.

* Voter Resources: The initiative directs participants to CAFE.vote, which connects users to nonpartisan voter registration tools via HeadCount. taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @tafoyajaime

Katie Zacharia, President Donald Trump’s newest press secretary, is having a bumpy first week on the job.

The Pepperdine University alumna struggled to read her notes during her first White House news conference on Tuesday and accidentally called her husband the president, which she managed to laugh off. The news conference lasted around 15 minutes.

And then off the podium, Zacharia’s habit of presenting herself as a lawyer has also come under scrutiny.

Zacharia graduated from the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in 2011 with a doctor of law degree, according to her LinkedIn, and has been identified as an “attorney” on multiple Fox News appearances. But SFGATE and other news outlets have been unable to find evidence of her passing the bar in any state.

The Campaign for Accountability, a watchdog group, filed a complaint with the California State Bar on Wednesday, alleging that she broke the law by repeatedly referring to herself as a lawyer, even though she is not licensed to practice law.

White House spokesperson Steven Cheung called the organization a “leftist” group without denying the group’s claim.
