[ TAGE ANDERSEN · 50 years in Copenhagen ]

In early June 1976, a truck drove from central Jutland to Copenhagen. Inside were Tage Andersen, his two dachshunds, an irritable parrot, all his odds and ends, and several bunches of dried baby’s breath dangling from the ceiling of the truck. Since that day, nothing on Copenhagen’s floral scene has ever been the same.

Tage Andersen arrived with extraordinary talent and gestures as grand as his vision. This year, we celebrate 50 years (in Copenhagen) of his work.

How do you honor a man who has held the course, created more than most could imagine, and for whom nothing has been too large (or small), with every detail receiving his unwavering attention – always with a distinctly un-Danish boldness? Whatever we, the team around Tage Andersen, do to mark this milestone, it will always feel inadequate in relation to the significance of what he has created.

But celebrate him we must – and what a remarkable journey it has been.

Tage Andersen is an aging man. Next year he will turn 80, and it is clear that at this stage in life his attention is drawn ever more towards what is close at hand. Beyond flowers, there is one thing that has remained constant throughout the years: his deep appreciation of good company. We are currently working on a number of ideas for how to celebrate Tage Andersen, centered around the shop in Ny Adelgade.

We’ll share more in the coming weeks.

September is Tage Andersen’s favourite month.

The colours, the changing light, the flowers and plants of the season.

When he speaks of September, you can feel how deeply this time of year has always inspired him.

In his work, it appears in all the in-between colours – the particular shades of the season. Colours in transition, slowly fading and ageing.

A glimpse through the windows, and you know at once: this is Tage Andersen. Textures, contrasts, evocative music, the living and the poetic — all woven together.
His signature.
