Our book is out in the world today. 💛

Embodied Social Justice Counseling for Indian Communities: Integrating Theory and Practice, co-authored with @shoba_nayar, has been published by @routledgebooks .

The book asks what it means to practise mental health work when bodies are responding to an unjust world. How do caste, class, gender, sexuality, disability and neurodivergence live in our bodies and enter the therapy room? What becomes possible when the body is understood not only as where distress appears, but also as a site of liberation, protest, resistance, dignity, refusal, agency and accountability?

It brings counselling, mindfulness, embodiment and social justice into conversation within Indian contexts through a practice of Notice, Sit With and Respond.

Although this book carries two authors’ names, it was made through a much wider field of relationships, therapeutic practice, research, critique, conversation and care.

Deep gratitude to Rebecca Crane for writing the foreword; to @stacikhaines and @dr_rae_johnson for their critical reviews; and to @ghoulistaan , @gayathriworks , @manasi_in_psych_mode , @0991091_ , @ellesmitty , Eman AlBedah, @jehanzebbaldiwala and @that_grey_space , whose knowledge and therapeutic practice live within the book.

Brilliant book cover by @nidamir23 your heart is woven into this book

At its heart are the people whose precious voices and meaning-making shaped the thesis from which much of this work grew. I cannot name them, but the book could not exist without their trust.

Thank you to Julia Giordano and everyone at Routledge. And thank you, @shoba_nayar , for being a supervisor, guide, confidant, friend and the backbone of this work.

Seeing this book enter the world feels tender and momentous. It is not a perfect or final word, only an offering made with care into an ongoing collective conversation.

I hope it finds its way into therapy rooms, classrooms, supervision spaces and communities.
