It feels so surreal reflecting that I only bought my first camera a year ago today! Why? Well, because of the opportunities I have had, the opportunities I have created and the lessons I have learned along the way!

I’m no certified expert, but it’s safe to say I have spent so much time just getting out into the field, messing around and finding out. I have missed shots and I have captured some questionable photos at times, but it’s taught me so much and more importantly - it’s allowed me to get out in the field as much as possible and connected me with so many incredible people along the way! Seriously, having the gear (and no idea) really does start a lot of conversations 😂. Plus, worst case scenario is that I’ve spent my days observing some beautiful landscapes or surrounding myself with people trying to better themselves!

We as humans are often so hard on ourselves, but reflecting on this year has allowed me to not only be really proud and grateful for the opportunities I have been part of and what I have captured, but also incredibly excited for what lies ahead moving forward!

My best advice is if you’re thinking of picking up a camera or just wanting to document your passions more, just do it. Honestly, not only are you creating memories for when your 85 year old self can’t even remember if they have eaten breakfast or not - but by just getting started and experimenting, you’re going to learn so much!

Most people think that you need the best equipment to be able to make your photos standout or to get started. However this really isn’t the case (mostly). Most of the latest phones will be just fine! You’re only ever as good as the equipment you have. If you can - shoot in RAW. This allows you to control highlights (lightest parts of your photos) and shadows far better when the photo has been taken. Yes, this requires a bit of editing after - but luckily for you I have created some presets in Lightroom Mobile to give your photos some different styles. Drop me a DM and I can send you the presets!

If you ever have any questions or not sure where to start, my DMs are always open!
