The Col du Tourmalet is the climb that has figured the most often on the route of the Tour de France.

It has made 88 appearances and was first included in 1910.

On that occasion, French rider Octave Lapize famously called the organisers “Assassins” for including the climb on the route.

The little village of Sainte-Marie-de-Campan that lies at the foot of the climb was made famous by French rider Eugene Christophe in the 1913 Tour de France. Christophe broke his fork in the descent and used the blacksmith forge in the village to fix it himself. He lost about 4 hours in the GC, including an extra 10-minute penalty for asking a young boy to operate the bellows while he performed the repair job. In those days it was strictly forbidden to receive any mechanical assistance from others.

Tourmalet will be climb number 8 on our Pyrenees 30 trip.

5 climbs of my 10 climbs I wanted to ride up 2026 have been done so far.

I think Lowther Hill and Winter's Gibbet maybe a struggle now as the winter gets colder and day light gets shorter.

But the other 3, Porlock, Allt Burn-Philip and Jackson Bridge should be doable over the winter.

Of the 5 I've done so far, Devil's Staircase has been my favourite. Stunning and very challenging climb. Especially after 120 miles and in 35 degrees!

Shout to @a_beard_on_a_bike for these photos from yesterday's hill climb at Jackson bridge.

Going back to hunting hills down with the Brompton,I stumbled upon Jackson bridge,but from the top,and when I saw the finish line,I knew I'd found a hill that is used,this was in 24,I wasn't completely aware of what goes on with hill climbing,I just ambled about trying to get within @100climbs book time's,I just thought if we can get within those times on the Brompton I'll be happy.

Rosedale chimney bank my arms where shaking,but found snaking the c line worked,great dun fell was fun, hard Knott's was interesting on a worn headset,but Jackson bridge seemed to have a place in my heart,maybe because it's local and it offers a beautiful view on the way up.

To make this climb my 3rd one in the hill climbing season and first ever year racing,I'm now aware that climbing a hill under your own merit is quite easy,racing up one,is absolutely stupid and completely beautiful,and is a completely different kettle to boil.

If I'm to consider more,and certainly enter more next year,some training and learning ways and finding a technique that work's is something I'm going to practice.

My usual method as been simple,with the Brompton I didn't have much options,so it was climb, obviously having more options in gearing and a general overall better position over a bike,is much better,but a skill I've not mastered yet.

Technique, breathing,power.

Much more,but I'm sure I'll figure it out and accept what's capable and what isn't.

Memories of the 96th @veloviewer Monsal Hill Climb. Some will never forget, others will choose to forget the pain the climb inflicts on the body.

What a day. 2nd largest entry, the best support we’ve ever had and the weather was superb. A huge well done to all the riders but chapeau to @therachelgshow & @gabe_dellar for claiming the top spots.

Better late than never! 📸 Apologies for how long these have taken to go up, but here are my shots from the 2026 Mam Nick Hill Climb. Huge congratulations to everyone who tackled that brutal climb, and to the winners on the podium. Ezra showed his class by winning in 5:58.4 .The scenery up there is stunning, and the Peak District really does put on a show for the riders. 🏔️🚴

The North Pennines is home of the highest climbs in England.

I’ve only ever dipped my toe in there previously with Great Dun Fell and Hartside. But I’ve been told I must properly explore it as there are so many good climbs and the road are great and very quiet.

I’ve been waiting for the perfect weather conditions to make the £64 train fare and 7 hour round trip on the train be worth it.

Thursday was that time. Calm winds, sunny weather. Maybe a bit cold at 4 degrees but jackets, gloves and leg warmers will sort that problem out.

It was well worth the travel time, cost and wait!
It’s a cycling paradise of England. I wish I lived closer so I could ride here more often.

So many epic climbs in a concentrated area. And different style of climbs.

I ticked off 8 of @100climbs up here but there are so many more to do! And others from @climb_finder
May look at a multi day trip next year in the North Pennines.
