Highlight reel for ‘Swimming’ and ‘Lyric’

‘Swimming’ is influenced off simple ripples in a river, creek, or stream. It’s the calming motion of the water that really captured my attention and recreating that calmness was my intention. The glazes on the individual pieces have different levels of cobalt carbonate in them to give these variations in the blues.

‘Lyric’ is an opposite. The calming nature in ‘Swimming’ isn’t in this piece. This piece was influenced off waves crashing into each other. It’s the force and intensity of the crash that I wanted to recreate. The glaze on this piece was salt fired, which adds to the intensity and chaos to it with how rigorous the firing process is.

These two pieces operate together, reflecting the idea of tranquility and chaos. I find myself fluctuating within this range as I live my day to day life, picking up little moments that characterize me, and slowly shape who I am.

Shots by @jackdeanpictures thanks brother for the awesome pictures!!

SOME.. silly shots from the disposable camera opening night!

My art practice requires a lot of solitude. There’s an illusion that I do it all alone but there’s a whole ‘behind the scenes’. Your support system. I rely on the people that are always there to help do the smallest or craziest thing. This exhibition wouldn’t be possible without yall!! Love to all of my crew for making this happen!

MUCH more to come soon!! @108contemporary as always, thank you for this opportunity!! Open: OCT 2ND - NOV 21ST

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported my artist talk for Earth, Sky, and Water this past weekend!!

The talk touched on where I find my inspiration regarding form and color, the connection to my materials, building process, and my insight I take away during the creation of a sculpture

We were also graced with the Head of the Art Department for Oklahoma State University at the talk. Thanks for the support sir!

Exhibition open from Oct 2nd-Nov 21st @108contemporary

Shimmer Tickles: The inspiration for this piece was as simple as watching water trickle down my living room window during a small rain.

I formed this piece through an extruding method where I twist the clay as it is being extruded to create the twists. The glaze on these individual pieces is a metallic glaze that resembles gold when fired to Cone 5/6 in an electric firing.

The idea for this piece has been in my sketchbook for years and now that it is in existence, I believe this is my favorite piece of the show!

Small peak of Earth, Sky, and Water. More to come but first feature has to be my mentor. The passions and knowledge he passed down are ingrained deep down. Thanks buddy (and you too Nelli).

Our first ever Museum THAT! event was a huge success, bringing the signing community together for a weekend of ASL tours, workshops, activities, and social events across Tulsa’s major art museums and cultural centers. Deaf guides led participants through local and art history with impressive exhibitions and spaces to host lively discussions.

Museum THAT! hosted family outings, date nights, and new friendships formed through having ASL-led events. Visitors across six states joined us with the local community for an unforgettable weekend.

Thank you to our venue partners: @108contemporary @bobdylancenter @guthriegreen @gilcreasemuseum @greenwoodculturalcentertulsa @philbrookmuseum @woodyguthriecenter. As well as 101 Archer @lortondaleclubpool @HotelBrut and Deaf Night Out Oklahoma.

Museum THAT! is possible graciously through City of Tulsa Gov Arts Commission - Vision Arts 6. Thank you to our event sponsors @tulsafmac @108contemporary @tulsafilmcollective @tulsaartistfellowship @nam.common @ok.oad Asemio, and Brookshire Grocers.

The tube slide components are unconventionally configured into acoustic > sky gazer > loungers, and when gathered into a trio, make series of collected / solitary experiences through this unique “bundle” geometry.

I listen to echoey music while lounging ~ currently “Perché non sognar” as I work on my Italian.

Why not dream ?!
