120 HOURS: KITTIWAKE HOTEL

SKJÆR — A small, rocky island in the sea

Tromsø, Norway

In the city of Tromsø, where kittiwakes are very present and make a lot of noise, our adaptable and movable steel structure offers a safe place for the birds. It creates a more natural habitat for kittiwakes with its proximity to water and by imitating the shape of a cliff.

This project is a response to the 15th edition of the 120 Hours competition, themed “The Art of Losing.” The challenge invited participants to design an exhibition pavilion on Tullinløkka in Oslo that poetically explores the concepts of loss and rediscovery. The pavilion serves as a physical and emotional space for reflecting on forgotten objects, memories and meanings; curating the ordinary to reveal their shifting value over time. Through architectural expression, the project engages with memory, transience and the power of finding meaning in what has been lost.

kittiwake-modul is a mobile urban sanctuary at Strandtorget, Tromsø. Providing a safe, vertical nesting habitat for the endangered Kittiwake. Designed for easy relocation, its modular frame blends industrial materiality with functionality. Enhancing an adaptable coexistence between the citizens, tourists and kittiwakes.

TullinlØka has finally claimed its identity. A monumental steel arch frames the skyline, confronting the city with its own reflection. Below, a gravity-defying exhibition block hovers above an aisle marked by scars of division and a single path of connection. The pavilion doesn’t comfort. It provokes, challenges, and demands rediscovery.
