Sat 10/17, 4-6 pm: You and Me - a conversation with the artists of Tandem: 20 Years of 13FOREST

Please join us on Saturday, for You and Me, the first of two conversations with the artists of Tandem @13forest. For this special twentieth anniversary exhibition, groups of gallery artists were asked to work together on a collaborative project. Kathryn Geismar @geismarart and I will be among the artists speaking on Saturday. We wrote about what the collaborative process was like for us:

“We have had deep conversations over many years, so it was easy to understand the essence of each other’s work...We both utilize layers to create visual complexity, and via different materials and symbols, we examine themes of time, relationships and identity. It made sense for Deb’s color and abstract forms to serve as more of a ground for Kathryn’s figurative work. The challenge lay in figuring out a way to ensure that our work contributed equally to the overall composition and concept…

“Out of respect for the incompatibility of our materials, we decided to start separately and then learn from the overlap of our two separate elements... Cutting became the hinge that let the two vocabularies meet... Deb slices into her work to create forms, and [she] brought this idea to the process... Kathryn brought the visual frame of the exposed sides and the emotional impact of face recognition to Deb’s abstract composing.”

Artist Spotlight! Andrew Fish
@andrew_fish_studio

This work of art may look familiar, as it is the promotional image for the Diamond Factory. Andrew's volunteered support has been integral in creating a space on Elm Street that is inviting and respectful of the incredible collection of art currently displayed in the inaugural show (which was hung with Andrew's help!).

"American Bubble Gum", Oil on paper,
22” x 30”, is part of Andrew Fish's artistic exploration of the 250 year-long "American Experiment" and we are so lucky to share it with you in person at the Diamond Factory.

Andrew Fish is a painter and printmaker based in Boston, MA, who's work explores the intersection of abstraction and representation, using the figure to investigate contemporary society and personal experience. He teaches at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, is a contributing writer for ArtSpiel, and is involved in numerous programs, talks and exhibitions continuously creating, supporting, and lending to the vibrant local art scene.

Check out his work locally, and beyond the Diamond Factory!

🖌13FOREST Gallery (Arlington)
His collaborative oil painting, Soul del Sole (created alongside artist Wilhelm Neusser), is currently on display as part of the gallery's 20th Anniversary Exhibition.

🖌Or simply click his link in the Diamond Factory linktree (in bio).

Thank you for being a bright light in the arts community, Andrew. We couldn't have done it so seamlessly without your support!

Opening tonight 6-8pm for TANDEM.
Catiee and Marc are celebrating 20 years of 13Forest Gallery with new collaborative works by the gallery artists.

From co-collaborator Jeffrey Heyne:

-With my own work focusing on immigration, I conceptualized pairing Dorothea Van Camp with Claude Eshun. The resulting photographs are of the collision of culture/power/politics around Dorothea’s Dutch heritage, Claude’s Ghanan heritage, colonialism, slavery, gold, and fashion.

Where we are from, how we got here, and where we are going, are all things that define our own stories. We should hold them tightly.

@13forest in Arlington is celebrating their 20th anniversary and TONIGHT they’re throwing a special birthday party (opening reception 6-8:00PM)!

Tandem is an exhibition of collaborative pieces by their roster of artists (as well one piece from each individual artist).

I had the amazing opportunity to work with @nwishnok to make our mixed media print collage titled “Wishmalnokoney”. I also have this layered #screenprint #relielfprint called “Green Sanders” in the show (as well as what it looks like with the black light). Hope to see you tonight!

I am so excited to see Mary’ s painting! @maryomalleyart it made perfect sense to be paired with Mary as we often explore similar themes of nature, flowers, and birds. We used the same prompts to create the works and it is great how the 2 paintings turned out different yet sharing a lot of similarities. I loved the element of surprise, to see Mary’s painting and I loved how we both ended up with 2 owls, not planned, somehow manifested! I can’t wait to see this exhibition @13forest I love the idea and the surprising work that comes out when artists are paired together! Opening reception tonight, 6-8 pm #gouache #gouacheonpaper #painting #owl #fall

“Wishing For A Sign” by Kathryn Geismar and Deborah Peeples

“To celebrate 20 years of 13FOREST in 2026, we planned a collaborative exhibition that showcases the fruitful relationships we have developed with our artists and the connections we have been able to foster between them. For this exhibition, we asked groups of our artists to come together to create collaborative work. How they chose to do this was left up to them so the exhibition would reflect the breadth of their creativity.

Lilith, 2026
Oil on panel
16 x 12 in

In collaboration with @joekeinberger_art on his painting:

Lucifer, 2026
Acrylic on panel
16 x 12 in.

Joe and I are thrilled to be participating in @13forest upcoming show Tandem! Tandem celebrates 13forest’s 20th anniversary and invites it’s artists to collaborate together. Joe and I have made a set of portraits of Lilith and Lucifer meant to be in the style of early 19th century pendant portraits that depict a married couple.

I am, as always, honored to be included in this show, I had so much fun working with Joe on this one!
