Shoutout to @steadyyrolla for the carbon skinning inspiration. What started as a simple conversation about his build turned into me taking a shot at it myself.

First attempt… and honestly, I’m proud of how it came out. Not perfect, but definitely solid. And now I know the next one is going to be even better.

If this video made you want to try it, here’s the process I followed 👇

Carbon Fiber Skinning (Top Side – Aesthetic + Protection)

1. Prep the edges
• Sand edges smooth
• Clean with alcohol
• Carefully trim any deep cuts

2. Base epoxy coat
• Mix epoxy (3:1 or per instructions)
• Apply a thin coat and let it get tacky (~2 hrs)
• Don’t rely on spray adhesive for strength

3. Lay the carbon fiber
• Place cloth carefully
• Trim excess after partial cure (~3 hrs)
• Dab epoxy to fully saturate the fibers

4. Cure
• Let it sit ~8 hours (overnight is best)

5. Build layers + sand
• Light sand (120 grit for high spots)
• Add 3 thin coats (2 hrs between coats)
• Sand progression: 120 → 240

6. Final finish
• Final thin coat → cure overnight
• Wet sand: 400 → 800 → 1200
• Polish or clear coat to finish

7. Clear coat
• 2K clear (3 light coats)
• Final polish for that deep gloss

Not perfect… but that’s part of the process. If you’re thinking about trying it.. DO IT!
