🗓 ON THIS DAY//OCTOBER 15, 1962: The 179th Cyberspace Wing is organized in Mansfield, Ohio as the 179th Tactical Fighter Group. As a fighter group, the 179th flew the F-84F Thunderstreak and F-100 Super Sabre before converting to an airlift group in 1976 flying the C-130 Hercules. From 2010-2013 the wing flew the C-27J Spartan and was the first unit to train and deploy the joint cargo plane in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2011. Recently, the wing converted to the Air National Guard’s first cyberspace wing, ending 60 years of flying missions for the unit. In this 1995 photo, aircrew and maintenance personnel from the 179th Airlift Group display a banner recognizing the unit's 100,000 hours of accident-free flying.

One mission. One Total Force.

Tech. Sgt. Alexis Yates, an Ohio Air National Guard recruiter, helped connect a qualified applicant with an opportunity to serve in the North Carolina Air National Guard, demonstrating Ohio’s expanding approach to recruiting beyond state lines.

By connecting applicants with Air National Guard opportunities nationwide, Ohio recruiters are helping retain qualified talent, strengthen interstate partnerships and support mission readiness across the force. Ohio recruiters secured 10 out-of-state accessions in the last quarter alone.

🥽 Uniting forces for next-level medical readiness! 🩺

The @179thCW visited @avianoairbase to execute immersive, high-stress virtual reality trauma scenarios and hands-on clinical rotations hosted by the 31st Medical Group.

Active duty and Guard personnel integrated to share specialized civilian expertise and refine advanced trauma care techniques. This total force integration directly supports agile combat employment by ensuring medical teams can operate and adapt in unfamiliar and degraded environments. This collaboration allows the 31st MDG to see how outside units conduct patient care and adapt to working with different teams, creating a more ready force in the event of real-world contingencies.
