SELECTED WORKS ‘982–‘026 STONE ISLAND: THE COLLECTOR SERIES 194 Local is an East London-based vintage menswear store specialising in designer clothing and collectibles from the mid-1980s to the late 2000s. Founded in 2018, the project has become a recognised destination for curated vintage and archival fashion, with a particular focus on European, American and Japanese designers. If you wear something stupid, the community will let you know,” For Liim, style and music are two sides of the same language. His Harlem-bred sensibility moves between rap, skate culture, fashion and the visual codes of New York, while his Moroccan roots bring another layer of colour, history and identity to the world he is building. @stoneisland has opened Selected Works ’982 ’026 at @theofficialselfridges, bringing pieces from independent Stone Island collections into The Corner Shop from 21 September to 6 November. The first rotation came from @arco_maher and @a.bout___, including the AW 1983 1984 JOCK 23 in PVC coated cotton canvas and the SS 1993 Reflective Jacket, made from polyester coated with thousands of glass microspheres. Selected archive pieces are available to buy, with their provenance presented alongside them. Which period of Stone Island becomes most interesting when the original garments are put back in front of you? The selection changes each week. From 28 September, Denim Research takes over with pieces from SimJae @eztag_, @pezzevintage and @bettergiftshop. Later rotations bring in @metalliccurtain, @hol.sales and @194local, moving through No Seasons, material research, wool, Ice Jackets and 3 Phase Reactive pieces. The archive sits beside the current AW26 collection and Selfridges exclusives throughout the six week installation. Which Stone Island archive piece would you want to see included?

Stone Island has handed its story to the archivists and collectors who trade its old jackets. ‘Passport’ is Glenn Kitson’s film for the brand’s takeover of The Corner Shop at Selfridges, which documents eight collectors across seven cities: London’s Arco Maher specialising in @stoneisland sourced from the Osti and Paul Harvey years; Holsales runs an appointment-only store in Shoreditch; 194 Local has sold mid-’80s to late 2000s menswear on Brick Lane since 2018; Toronto boutique Better Gift Shop; Tokyo vintage store ‘bout; iconic Napoli space Pezze, Parisian Metallic Curtain; and Seoul-based archivist SimJae. Even the appointment of Bolton’s Kitson as director, who started out selling vintage pieces on football message boards, further solidifies its dedication to creating full-circle moments for true fans. CEO Robert Triefus has said the brand’s culture is shaped by “the people who discover, wear, preserve and reinterpret” its garments. And for nearly three years, through its “Community as a Form of Research” series, the campaigns have been about the people who put it on. ‘Passport’ is about the other verbs. The ones who have found the rare pieces, held on to them and can tell you every detail of a jacket from the brand’s history. At @theofficialselfridges, each collector has passed over pieces from their personal archive to go on sale, and it’s the provenance where the value lies. The space is designed by the renowned @willoperron, whose work spans fashion runways and retail spaces, as well as being best known for elaborate stage designs, including Drake’s flying Ferrari and Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime show. Serving as a revolving installation that changes every week for six weeks, the modular centrepiece features a speaker and screen above each of the jackets, with stories of the garments told directly by the owners in their native languages. While its wearers front the campaigns, Stone Island is one of the only brands that has embraced its resellers, trusting them to keep the torch lit.
