Miss Demeanour Open Mic Night - 6th July 2026 (PART 2) (Continued from previous post) This would not be the last occasion that Frog would jam with others this evening. The night concluded with a freestyle rap group who went by the name Jana Yeah Yeah Girls, although they are known on Instagram as “Slivsters.” Two ladies took on vocal duties, while Leah shook a tambourine and sang harmonies. Frog was once again on keyboard, and even Dan joined in on cajon. JC even provided some soulful sax to truly make this a jam for the ages. The ladies even dedicated the first song of their set to their friend Claire, who was celebrating her birthday. Claire could not stop laughing the entire time, and everyone’s attention was totally fixated on what was happening on stage! The energy levels went through the roof, and Jana Yeah Yeah Girls totally stole the show with a little help from their male friends! The ladies are going on a tour of Europe soon, so best wishes go to them for that. (To be continued...)

Miss Demeanour Open Mic Night - 6th July 2026 (PART 3) (Continued from previous post) I was making my first visit to Miss Demeanour since my birthday! On that occasion I had interviewed Ella Hartwig for my radio show “Protis Reviews On Zed Digital”, before heading on to the open mic. This time around, it was the turn of none other than Dan and his partner Lisa to be interviewed by me! We had such an amazingly fun time, and that conversation will air on Wednesday the 22nd of July from 6pm, just three days before Honey Badger Events holds their “Get Gigs Workshop” at Milton Common. I ended up travelling with Dan and Lisa straight from 4ZZZ to Miss Demeanour, and it was so nice of them to offer me a lift. My set at the open mic began with two Barenaked Ladies songs from their album “Stunt.” My brother had gifted that body of work to me for my 17th birthday, so I ended up listening to it over and over! I had not heard those songs for several years if not decades, so I was amazed to be able to remember them at all! I had only started practising the first song of my set on the morning of this open mic, so the whole day and night was a really fun one for me! My full setlist of songs that I performed at Miss Demeanour were as follows: 1. Light Up My Room (Barenaked Ladies cover) 2. Who Needs Sleep? (Barenaked Ladies cover) 3. Can You Forgive Her? (Pet Shop Boys cover)

Miss Demeanour Open Mic Night - 6th July 2026 (PART 1) Initially, it looked like this event in the heart of Brisbane’s Central Business District would be another quiet Monday night in winter. Contrary to that though, the dinner crowd steadily filed into the venue and provided quite the atmosphere for the performers. Even if the audience members may not have been all that attentive at times! The sign-up board was not full, and the open mic even started a little later than usual. Frog The Baddie Hunter kicked off proceedings with three songs by The Killers. Two of them were perhaps this group’s most famous numbers, being “Mr Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me.” Pink Diamond was up second, and strummed a brand new acoustic guitar as she sang. One of the songs in her set was the Missy Higgins hit “Scar”, and she dedicated it to her dog Oscar. If you add the letter O to Scar, you get Oscar after all. It was a lovely sentiment, and she did a great job with her set as always. Allan Drummond (or Allan with two Ls, according to Frog) performed three of his original songs, as he so often does at this venue. Colleen South graced Miss Demeanour with a tinking of the ivories, accompanied by Frog on cajon. She played a Taylor Swift song in honour of her recently getting married, and finished her set with a song for one of Tayloe’s exes. This person was actually at her wedding, would you believe? Willy also played some of his own songs, and without a slide guitar in sight! It was a welcome change, and he definitely has a way with words. Saxophonist JC did one song by himself, and then he was joined by this event’s organiser Dan Whittam on bass, Allan on cajon, Frog on keyboard, and Willy strummed electric guitar and sang. They had a whale of a time on stage together, and the audience enjoyed it as well. (To be continued...)

Milton Common Open Mic - 31st May 2026 (PART 2) (Continued from previous post) Scott The Star decided to do something decidedly different for this open mic. He presented a radio play, which was his own take on “War Of The Worlds.” Dan had once again relaxed his “no backing tracks” rule so that Scott could do his thing. Scott vowed to perform this piece of music with a band in future, and that does sound very intriguing indeed! Gorilla Bongs returned to the stage for another freestyle rap, and invited others to join him. Those to take up his offer were David Truong on keyboard and Frog The Baddie Hunter on tambourine. It became a jam very quickly, much to the audience’s delight! The Tabby Cats were previously seen at the open mic at Chapters in Karalee, and have performed at Milton Common a few times in the past. They were in fine form as they began their set with “We Are The Tabby Cats” which introduced the duo to the audience. Their other two songs were covers, with one of them being “All My Loving” by The Beatles. Matt Sipple’s set certainly had everyone clapping along and enjoying themselves to no end! Other performers included Nick, Dan, Tim, D-Wayne Beat, and Ryn who had decided to team up with Chris P. Rent Acenter kept up his tradition of constantly changing his stage name at every open mic. This afternoon he went by Rick Sanchez, which he said s a reference to the TV show “Rick and Morty.” I once again accompanied him on the folding keyboard provided by Frog The Baddie Hunter, and I was grateful to be able to use the stand that had also been supplied by Frog. No more “MacGyver-ing” for me! The songs in our setlist were as follows: 1. Perfect (Simple Plan cover) 2. Stacy’s Mom (Fountains Of Wayne cover) 3. Advance Australia Fair (Working Class Man parody)

Milton Common Open Mic - 31st May 2026 (PART 1) This afternoon’s event was the end of an era on Brisbane’s open mic circuit. It would be the very last showcase of local live music at this venue. The management at Milton Common had made the decision to not trade on Sundays moving forward, and other simultaneous events had been affecting the open mic’s attendance as well. The venue was packed with footy fans before the live music began for the afternoon, in the leadup to the Broncos game at the nearby Suncrop Stadium. By kick-off though, most of the patrons had left Milton Common en route to the match. Being the final open mic, the sign-up board was full and the event ended up running until at least 6pm. Everyone was still permitted to perform three songs each. Willy started off proceedings, with his steel slide guitar that he plays like a zither. It’s a rather unique take on this instrument. Dan Whittam joined him on cajon for a song or two. Speaking of Dan, he had relaxed his “no backing tracks” rule so that MC Chosen could rap along to his original songs.. There were some technical issues with the first song of his set, but the second number saw him and Gorilla Bongs team up for an epic freestyle rap. These two work very well together, if I do say so myself! Frog The Baddie Hunter brought along some open mic favourites for this very special occasion. One of them was a song that he performed at his very first time at Milton Common, and that was “Home Among The Gum Trees.” The other songs in his set were “Reckless” by Australian Crawl and “Opportunity” by Pete Murray. Pablo De Jesus once again wowed the audience with his instrumental stylings, courtesy of his electric guitar. Pink Diamond and Dr Michael Free both took their turns on the stage, with the latter performing three original songs which is rare for him at an event like this. David Truong, aka Ambition Road, was once again joined by Paulina as they sang two of his original songs as well as a cover. The final song of their set was another spine-tingling rendition of “Missing Gypsy.” Seriously, that one continues to get better and better with every performance! (To be continued...)
