Voice box, from the inside —> out Through this piece, I’m exploring the complex relationship between religion and voice, with the anatomy of the larynx (the voice box). An upside-down church window grate sits on top of the vocal cords and acts as a filter. It becomes an invasive object in the body, imposing a barrier. Historically, organized religion has been largely male-dominated and has limited where, when, and how women make their voices heard. Women’s stories and perspectives have been diluted and excluded from conversations in these spaces.
