Real-World Impact: Hemp Blocks in Action.

Ightham Mote: Protecting Heritage with Natural Materials.

Hemp Block Company's commitment to sustainable design is more than a concept—it’s already making a difference in real-world projects across the UK.

From heritage sites to low-energy homes, Hemp Block’s versatile solutions have proven to be effective, durable, and elegant.

At the Ightham Mote Visitor Centre, a National Trust Grade I listed site in Kent, the project team needed a construction solution that could deliver on both sustainability and sensitivity to the historic surroundings.

Hemp Block’s breathable, low-carbon hemp-lime 400mm blocks were the ideal choice.

The natural vapour permeability of the blocks supports excellent moisture regulation, which was critical in this setting to protect the timber frame from long-term damage.

The project demonstrates how modern, sustainable materials can complement and safeguard heritage buildings while meeting stringent environmental targets.

From Zero Session #2 — Exit Stories // Before, during and post exit.

After kicking off with Session #1 Resilience in Startups, Session #2 dives into what it takes to grow and exit a company — and how founders navigate the chapter that follows.

We’ll hear from three experienced Cypriot founders who’ve sold their startups to larger players, each bringing their own unique stories and perspective on the journey to exit — from timing and strategy to navigating difficulties before, during and post exit. Together, we’ll unpack the decisions, emotions, and lessons behind their stories.

Stephanos Stephanov — Co-Founder & COO, 2050 Materials
Stephanos is on a mission to make sustainability simple in the built environment. As co-founder of 2050 Materials, he’s building the data platform that empowers designers and construction companies to make data-driven, sustainable design decisions at scale. I’ll be biking from @rhschelsea to @clerkenwelldesignweek to #houseofestila to join my fellow @interiordesigndeclares steering group members: @simonesuss , @jecks.stone and @mathew_freeman_ to discuss “Responsible specifying in Interiors” at 2pm in the House of Estila showroom, 66a Turnmill Street, Farringdon, London EC1M 5RR . At @rhschelsea I will be looking out for tips on Mediterranean gardens and water harvesting - as well as being dazzled by the joy of nature in all its glory!!! At @clerkenwelldesignweek we will try and guide our listeners to be passionate about careful, circular designing. If you can’t make it you can find a great store of resources on the @interiordesigndeclares website; @asbp_uk have brilliant webinars, an EPD database and specification indicator; @c2ccertified is a great place to start, and they have a design network; @2050materials, @firstplanit and @blue_patch will help you source and plan with great products and companies; @the_aecb have a great monthly social to thrash out sustainable challenges! The @thebiid sustainable specifying Guide is a good read, updated in 2023 and still extremely relevant. I often dip into @madeinbritainofficial website, as I always strive to buy local as well as naturally made products. I’m enjoying commissioning some stunning reclaimed parquet from @britwoodfloors ; am a huge fan of @indinature hemp insulation, @corksoluk spray on insulation, @rolscarpets made from recycled plastic bottles, @retrouvius for panelling and antique doors etc; @mylands_london for well made exterior paints and Linseed oils @edwardbulmerpaint for naturally made emulsions, and last but not least our dear friend and colleague Emer’s @sparkandbell lighting ! So many more . My moto is : Take time, go deep and enjoy. If you don’t rush and take the time to do the research ( including how to responsibly dispose or reuse any precious rubbish) make your own library of brilliant trustworthy suppliers and advisors you will be able to enjoy spending your and your clients money wisely, because it will not only last and look great but you will be glad you have supported the right businesses: that will sustain our beautiful planet. Please.
