#ByStudioAHEAD Excited to share that Side A @sideasf has been put in the Louis Vuitton City Guide! Thank you @alexichen!

Since 1998, the Louis Vuitton City Guides have brought the world’s most fascinating cities to life for business and leisure travelers alike. To capture the spirit of each city, Louis Vuitton reaches out to journalists, writers and major figures in the world of arts and letters, whose contributions – together with those of artists, businesspeople and creative talents from many fields – make each City Guide a publication like no other.

The Art of the Custom DJ Table

Custom DJ tables sit right at the intersection of sound and design. They’re built to hold turntables and mixers, sure, but the good ones feel more like crafted pieces of furniture than gear stands. Designers think about height, weight, vibration control, and materials in the same breath as layout and aesthetics.

There’s real craftsmanship behind them. Welded steel frames, solid wood tops, custom cable routing, built-in lighting, even integrated record storage. Everything is made to feel intentional and sturdy enough for long sessions.

And more people are building dedicated music corners at home. Listening rooms, vinyl bars, DJ nooks. A proper table gives the setup a sense of permanence and turns the act of playing music into something more considered.

#ByStudioAhead Neighborhood gem @sideasf , featuring @tubsaudio audio system & custom brushed aluminum barstools designed by Studio AHEAD in collaboration with @280west.

«Remnants of the Universal Cafe days, which lend warmth and familiarity, are complemented by a measured dose of newness. “We already loved this space,” Rajai explains. “If something is amazing, keep what’s amazing and just build on it, so that there’s this layering.” Hence, the molded plywood and galvanized steel banquette that he and Dendiberia are seated on, which essentially runs the length of the dining room, is a holdover. As is the plywood bar, topped with marble, separating diners from the kitchen. (The marble came from a historic bank building on Market Street.) Along the banquette wall, on the existing beadboard that was refreshed with white paint, the designers installed two dozen vertical acoustic panels covered in undyed felted wool, thus adding texture, too».

Side A is a new restaurant and music venue in San Francisco’s Mission District, combining food, music, and design. Studio AHEAD reimagined the interiors in collaboration with the owners, preserving nostalgic details like marble bar counters salvaged from a historic bank and 90s-era bentwood banquettes, while introducing custom metal furnishings and a brushed aluminium DJ stand. An extensive vinyl library—curated over two decades—anchors the music-centred atmosphere.
