25 ft @hopetala is out! I wrote this song after a meeting with a man who used to represent me. He told me that we should see about changing my age to buy me more time in the music industry. Apparently 25 was already thin ice for a women’s career. It was something I’d heard a lot, every session, every meeting, I would be asked my age. Always with the feeling that I was reaching my sell by date. Immediately after that meeting I ran to the studio and 25 poured out of me. It was cathartic but I put the song aside, never thinking I’d release it, until Hope & Josh heard me play it live and dubbed it their favorite of my songs; after that I dedicated it to them at every show. They insisted I put it out and would help me finish the song, it was one of the funnest experiences of my life, building this track out with two people that are the antithesis and the antidote to those antiquated ideas of who music belongs to. Hope and Josh are the most optimistic, supportive and joyous people I’ve ever been around and I’m giddy with gratitude to have them in my life and to have them on this song.

#tbt biking in Italy with the kids. We stopped to rest and found some blackberry bushes and picked a bunch of blackberries to eat. The 15-year-old was on her own bike. The eight year old was on a trailer bike. An unforgettable trip!

#tbt sometimes the misreading of a road surface doesn’t affect you alone. Sure, you could take a curve too low, skid out and the result is a newsworthy pile of hardbodies in Lycra and expensive bikes. But in my case, a slick of algae on a dirt (clay)surfaced trail took out me and my son who was on the trail-a-bike attached to mine. Thankfully, he wasn’t traumatized enough to put him off biking and we’ve had many a great ride together.

Leander cast his masterful lens on my life and collected little stories and surreal moments to make the 25 video; it was one of the most joyful and effortless experiences. Endless thanks to my long suffering besties for being the cast n crew. Link in my bio to watch!!
