“Okay, let’s do this one last time, yeah? For real this time. This is it.”

To say how amazing these last four years of track were would be an understatement. The team that I’ve been on since 9th grade has been truly the best and has evolved to highs many don’t see. Being at a high comp since 9th grade has allowed me to meet so many people and friends all over Long Island, New York, and even out of state and the support that I’ve gotten from everyone has only pushed me to go farther. Working alone after being given a foundation has allowed me to stay determined and push myself to where I’m at today. Not giving up is one of the biggest things I can say helped me throughout my whole high school career. I wanna thank my coaches for always being there to push me through the intense workouts, being there to watch and support me through every jump, and every fall. Thank you to all my teammates for their endless support. Being able to get to such limits with my entire team was something that I’m very grateful we were able to work towards. A new chapter in life is coming and I just gotta keep the story going. Thank you West Bab track and field for an amazing 4 years. 🏃🏽‍♂️💙💛

Copiague senior Nigel Harris was always a really good high hurdler, but there was always someone just a little better in his own county. This past winter, at the Suffolk indoor sectional championships, he finally got over the hump and narrowly won his first ever championship against one of the nation’s best: North Babylon senior Jordan Peck, who has an amicable, friendly rivalry with Harris.

Peck was running through an injury back then. That led some others — but not Peck himself — to call into question the validity of Harris’ victory.

The only thing invalid about Harris’ championship were the doubts about it.

He solidified his legacy with a win in the 110-meter hurdles on Thursday night, and then later doubled down with another win in the 200 dash.

“I heard a lot of talk after winning that title,” Harris said. “A lot of people were doubting me, saying that I was lucky he was injured, so I wanted to come here and make a statement. But like I’ve said before, I’m still hungry.”
