Tartuffe (Remixed) is a must see in London!
Cultures collide in Moliere’s classic family mishap story reborn with Jamaican, Nigerian, and British identities. Mark Rylance channels manic mischievous energy as the scheming pastor, supported by a crew of talented Intermission @weareintermission actors, on this story of religious fanaticism and how we break out. The beautiful press night was a splendid display of theatrical excellence and community joy! Running through October 24, head to the Marylebone @marylebonetheatre while you can for international theatre gold!

Tartuffe (Remixed)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Darren Raymond’s deftly written reimagining of Moliére’s Tartuffe has opened at London’s Marylebone Theatre with some serious star power.

The storied 17th Century comedy is given new life as a London-set wedding brings together Jamaican and Nigerian families for their fateful encounter with swindling Anglican clergyman Pastor Blake (Mark Rylance).

Acting royalty, Rylance is no stranger to the West End and is to be applauded for his embrace of Intermission Youth theatre company to deliver this exciting, side-splitting new production.

While his performance doesn’t touch the lofty heights of his unforgettable award-winning lead role in Jerusalem, Rylance is clearly enjoying every moment as the conniving Pastor Blake defrauds his trusting marks. As the truly great comedy actor that he is, Rylance commands the stage with a twinkle in his eye and is endlessly inventive with the use of his dazzling prosthetic teeth.

Inconsistency and the odd miscue across the cast can be forgiven with a number making West End debuts, yet in Morenike Onajobi (Kemi) Intermission may have unearthed a future gem. Nakeba Buchanan (step-mum Elmire) and Suzette Llewellyn (the no nonsense and deeply religious Grandma) bring a powerful and relatable mother-daughter dynamic that brings a whole lot of heart to the second half.

The fast-paced rhyming couplets - delivered in Jamaican, Nigerian and London dialects - organically carries you through the living room drama as cultures collide. Such is the speed at which the families go at each other though, the transitions between scenes feel clunky and laborious with props continuing to be moved around while the play resumes at several points.

Beneath the hilarious chaos - including several memorable rewind sequences - sits a contemporary commentary on the legacy of colonialism with Rylance’s white church leader taking advantage of the two families’ religious deference and devotion.

A bold reimagining of a classic and Mark Rylance in a tiny theatre - an unmissable combo.

ARTIFICIAL - Luca Guadagnino turns one of Silicon Valley’s wildest power struggles into a sharp biographical comedy-drama.
In select theaters Christmas Day 2026.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino.
Written by Simon Rich.
Produced by Jeffrey Clifford, Jennifer Fox, Luca Guadagnino, David Heyman and Simon Rich.
Also starring Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Chris O’Dowd, Cooper Koch, Billie Lourd, Zosia Mamet and more.

On 25 October, I’m running the Beachy Head Half Marathon to raise money for Medical Aid for Palestinians.

A few years ago, I travelled to Gaza to teach about persistent pain and rehabilitation.

I met Palestinian healthcare professionals doing everything they could to help people, often with very little. They welcomed me, looked after me and shared their lives and stories with me.

Some of those people are no longer here.

With so much suffering in Gaza, it can be hard to know what any one of us can do.

This is something I can do.

So I’ll be taking on those Beachy Head hills with the people I met very much in my thoughts, raising what I can to support desperately needed medical care.

If you can donate, however much, thank you. 🕊️

And sharing this will help too.

The donation link is in my bio.

With care,
Richmond 🌿

Last night, my friend Mel & I were invited as Patrons to an event, celebrating the "beginning" of gaining real time support for the Official HOME of The New Forest Open Air Theatre Company at Hinton, in our beautiful New Forest, Hampshire.

But this was NOT the true beginning. The seed of an idea began 6 years ago from the imagination and dreams of the Artistic Director, Abbey Wright, in her own right, a powerhouse of experience in the industry.

Story so far - "In 1592, when theatres closed due to plague, Shakespeare's company packed up their costumes and took their plays into the countryside, performing in forests, glades and glens.

In the Summer of 2020, after months of COVID 19 isolation, when theatres once again fell silent, we did the very same thing..."

Much progress was made in the intervening period and NOW, due to serendipity, the location on land belonging to Meyrick estate, has been given over to be the theatre's permanent home.

The mission is to provide West End quality performances without West End prices 💖. The proposal is for a 300 seat auditorium made from coppiced timber from the surrounding woodland.
Symbiosis is the key 🗝️🌳🐿️🪵🌿

Jane Austen's grandfather, #lewiscarroll and Alice (Liddell - buried at Lyndhurst Church) strolled about in these very woods.

Last night, we were treated to a compilation performance, put together in just 48 hours of rehearsal time 😱 including music, spoken word and excerpts from Romeo & Juliet, some comedy pieces, children's theatre, a wonderful rendition of Toad "poop, poop" 🚗 and speeches from @candidameyrick and #jemmaredgrave (#doctorwho for the younger generation!). ALL the participants performed for free!

Patrons so far include Sir Mark Rylance,
Dame Judi Dench, Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir Lenny Henry, Dan Snow, Geraldine Somerville and author, Lady Candida Meyrick.

and maybe become part of something to encourage "good things" in our wonderful countryside Community 💚
