Leaving Berlin for Girona, looking for a different pace, a different life. But before heading north, Leon stopped by the shop to build something of his own.

He’s spent years as a professional bike mechanic, but he wanted to get behind the torch to understand, in the most physical sense, how subtle tweaks on paper translate to how a bike behaves under you. He brought his 29er, wanting to slightly shift its geometry, curious to feel how slight adjustments reframe riding, handling, and perceived experience, and to take that understanding back to his collective and the trade.

We spent five days together, torching and cutting steel and talking. Not just about geometry, tube sets, and trade and aesthetics, but also about how we felt about the world of lately. Five days of sharing perspectives, quiet focus, and learning from each other. I definitely walked away with a few great pro-mechanic tips.

He’s heading up north to Geres Nationalpark, riding this freshly powdered coated frame into the next chapter and visiting friends along the way. Congrats on building such a beautiful bike, Leon. Hope it will take you wherever it is you want to arrive. 🌞

Frame building courses: I try to three slots a year open for these frame-building exchanges on a sliding scale to keep the craft open and accessible. If you’re in the trade or not and want to come to Portugal, and build a frame together, drop a line on the website. Slots are open for next year.

DAY 1: Race update 🐐

Things are already getting interesting at the front of the race 🚀

In the women’s field, a smiling and apparently unstoppable Jule Grund @julegrund is currently leading, with Hana Bergh around 10 km behind and still very much in the game.

Meanwhile, the general classification is currently led by Sven Kolb @kolb.sven and Noric Eichelmann @eichelmannnoric, with Michael Moser @mike.the.moser chasing just 3 km behind.

And yes: the first three riders on the road all come from the same team, @fomeracing. Quite a way to start the race!

The gaps are reaaaaaally small, and we haven’t passed the midpoint of the route yet! Checkpoint 2 might shake things up.

ATTAQUER DETOUR - BERLIN.
