A buck from Heaven.

Some of you know the struggles that my family and I have had in our personal lives over the past few weeks… This is without a doubt the hardest post I have ever written…

On September 24th I unexpectedly lost my father.
My dad was an incredible human being and even better father to me and my brother.
He was my biggest supporter, my best friend, and most trusted mentor.
He would continuously go above and beyond for his family and friends.
Generally if you were a friend of his he considered you family anyway and never even thought about blurring those lines.
Anyone that really knew my father knew that he would literally do anything to help anyone he could.
He loved his family and friends with something more than just passion, his love was primal.
Like so many of us he was not perfect, but that’s what made him the incredible man we were all so lucky to know.
I’m grateful beyond words to have had the time I did with him.
And I know he is with me each and every day.

My father brought me so many other unexpected joys in life that I also could not be more grateful for.
One of joys was my son, my dog, named Fester.
On October 12 the old man decided to call Fester home.
It brings me some joy to think about them reunited in a mansion I’ll hopefully join them in someday.
As I said, Fester was not just a dog, he was my son and he will forever be greatly missed.

This isn’t my buck.
This is Larry and Fester’s buck and I’m just grateful to be the one that gets to bask in the physical glory of another joy they have both brought me in my life.

Yesterday was spent with some of my closest friends and family, laughing, crying, and reminiscing about Larry and Fester.
The feelings and emotions I have currently are indescribable and I believe will remain that way for some time.
Sitting in the woods has been almost unbearable being alone with my thoughts and memories.
But here I am pushing through the pain doing what I hope makes them proud.

So when my father and my son sent me this buck, all I can do is hope I made them smile the way they have made me smile so many times.

A buck from Heaven.
