I speak in the tongues of my mother and my grandmother and my grandmothers before her
Although I do not know the wordsย
My very being is the evidence of those languages

It was with those words that you imagined my existence
It is through your body that I arrived
You tended to the garden where the seed of my material human existence could grow
You took care of the growth of my body
So that my soul could fill it
So that our bodies would meet here in this time
We would walk the earth together for as long as it took for us to share our love, our hearts and our lessons on living

You were my guide
And as I grew I was sometimes an unwilling and unruly student
But you continued to nurture the growth of this seedling even as she was wayward and unwieldy
Gently and care-fully you continuously pruned, clipped, fed and watered
You whispered affirmations to her buds
So that each flower would fully and vibrantly bloom

It is those ancient words whispered from
mother to child
mother to child
mother to child
Words as old as the ancient Mother Earth herself

These words spoken by you will keep me going now you have left your body and returned to the realm of the soul
The words you leave me with
Your mother tongue
Are my very being.
And I do not need to know the words
Their meaning
Their intonation
Their pronunciation
I understand their intention
And I just need to know that you have been

And I am being
And that which was you that has been
Is being
Living in me
