Thank you, football. You’ve been with me since I was a kid, and you gave me an identity, a purpose, and a drive that shaped me into the man I am today. I’ve been blessed to play at the highest level at every stage of my journey, and I’ll never take that for granted. College football has pushed me harder than anything I’ve ever done mentally, physically, and emotionally and only a small number of people ever get to experience what this game demands and gives back. I’m grateful for every moment, every challenge, and especially the bonds this sport creates. The brotherhood, the long days, the laughs, the grind… it’s something special. I’m forever thankful for this game and everything it’s taught me. But at the same time, this game doesn’t define who I am life is bigger than football, and I’m excited for the man I’m becoming beyond it.

Meet Calvin! He’s a senior here at FC and is loved by all.
Q: What’s it like being an African American athlete in a predominantly white school?
A: It has its challenges. You definitely feel a lot of pressure to stand out a little due to the stereotypes and everything that comes with being an African American athlete. People often overlook the hard work you have put in and try to discredit you by saying “THEY” are just born like that. It gets pretty frustrating when you keep hearing that, as if you haven’t worked hard to get to where you’re at, but a lot of the time you have to take a breath, and remind yourself it doesn’t really matter what they think because you know how hard you have worked.
Q: What does the DAC mean to you?
A: To me, the DAC is a place where I can gather with people who face some of the same problems I do, and express my ideas on how to make FC a better place for all students of color.
