2) after-gig dinner at Newton Hawker Center
3) pre-Indonesia layover hot pot
4) stumbling on a Chinese club with a band
5-8) apparently SG has a very active Afrobeats scene
9-10) market stall and purohita in Little India
11) A.K. Ong of Whampoa Color Centre, established in 1983. Great place to find film in the city—managed to grab some really rare ones akin to the Candidos. Once exclusively specialized in analog film processing, his business, manned by his wife and him, has recently expanded into laser photo printing, photo editing, and larger format prints.
12) quirky lil establishment/home that looks like a camera
13) hey @suyinbenzo!
14) @412.am and I hitting up another camera spot
15) National Day prep—Singapore’s most patriotic day is on August 9th, commemorating its separation from Malaysia since 1965.
16) Funan Mall. Super techy and modern
17) golden hour at Whampoa
18) cool KTV exterior lights
19) Sultan Mosque, Kampong Glam

Singapura Days (07/25-08/01, 2024)

The Merlion City was the next stop on the tour after our exhibition in Indonesia. It marked the second time I visited, but the first that I truly had time to explore and immerse into daily life in the island—from landmarks to nightlife haunts, religious ceremonies to HDBs. Here’s some clips of my time there:

1-2) hanging around Whampoa after buying film at a local shop
3) bus stop en route to Little India
4-6) Stumbling on a Sayaraksha Pooja at Sri Verramakaliamman
7) @atlasbarsg at Parkview Square—absolutely gorgeous 1920s Art Deco interior
8) rooftop climbing with @412.am
9) National Gallery of Singapore
10) Quayside views near the Fullerton
11) the one, the only: Marina Bay Sands
12) bboy sesh at the Esplanade MRT station—usual spot for the SG street dance community
13) go-karts at the Esplanade MRT
14) Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle - one of Singapore’s oldest pottery houses (since 1965) and the sole owner of the city’s last dragon kiln, a business spanning three generations since Tan Kim Seh first arrived in the city.
15) quiet HDB vibes—the majority of Singaporeans live in government-subsidized apartment complexes like these, with single family housing usually in the hands of the wealthy.
