¡Hoy en @filmotecacat tenemos un programa doble formado por seis de las mejores películas Sonbert! En la primera sesión podremos ver dos de sus mejores trabajos silentes de montaje, The Cup and the Lip y Rude Awakening, junto con su primera película, Amphetamine. En cuanto a la segunda sesión, mostraremos otras dos películas de montaje, Honor and Obey y Divided Loyalties, junto con Bad and the Beautiful, una película repleta de canciones pop en la que aparecen nueve parejas, una por bobina. Todas las películas de Sonbert se proyectan una sola vez, ¡así que es una oportunidad única para verlas! Una es una especie de mirada proustiana sobre el mundo, y la otra es una forma más bien infantil de mirarlo. Para mí, hacerse adulto equivale a volverse heterosexual. Quizá deba matizar esto, pero cuando te arrebatan la locura, o el entusiasmo, o la pasión, entonces pasas a formar parte de ese mundo adulto, heterosexual, cerrado. Por supuesto, en mis películas la idea es también que los heterosexuales sean niños, que conserven la libertad infantil, esa abundancia desbordante de posibilidades respecto a lo que quieres hacer con tu vida y a cuáles son realmente tus opciones. La identificación con los niños para mí tiene que ver con su carácter pletórico. No han sido domesticados, aún no han caído en la rutina. En mi película The Cup and the Lip (1987), los niños —y también los gatos— representan siempre la anarquía. No se puede prever qué harán a continuación. No hay manera de contar con ellos, lo cual es parte de su cualidad ambivalente. Y, sin embargo, a medida que avanza The Cup and the Lip, se vuelve cada vez más oscura, y en una de las últimas tomas vemos a unos niños vestidos con uniformes de Boy Scouts marchando en fila. Los niños terminan siendo los únicos personajes uniformados de la película, con ese tipo de fascista”. Warren Sonbert

Nuestro ciclo “Puente aéreo. El cine de Warren Sonbert” (16-20 de septiembre en @filmotecacat, 1-3 y 6-9 en @filmoteca_galicia y 16-21 de octubre en @cinetecamadrid y @cinestudiocba) incluye también algunas películas de otros cineastas puestas en diálogo con el cine de Sonbert. La primera de ella es Written on the Wind, de Douglas Sirk. Las entradas para la proyección en 35mm de la película de Sirk en Filmoteca de Catalunya (16 de septiembre, 21h) se pueden comprar ya en la web de la Filmoteca: https://www.filmoteca.cat/web/ca/film/written-wind Warren Sonbert veía en Douglas Sirk a un cineasta capaz de revelar las fisuras del mundo burgués sin que sus personajes quedaran nunca reducidos a héroes o villanos. Written on the Wind relata la desestructuración más absoluta de una familia inmensamente rica, desplegada en un exuberante mundo plástico. La narración, a golpe de giros, acompaña a unos personajes atrapados en sucesivos círculos de deseo, frustración y repetición. La saturación expresiva, de una espectacularidad casi operística, y los hallazgos del montaje recuerdan a la sensibilidad del propio cine de Sonbert.

For our AW26 show, we asked our friend Yerai Cortés to compose a song that could take us back to the nostalgia of Toma que toma, la Macarena, and the rumbas we grew up listening to on summer nights in Spain. Two days later, he sent us the demo for COMARE. It made us instantly happy and somehow captured exactly the very specific feeling we had been looking for. Yerai now closes his concerts with the song, and it seems to turn them into a party every time. Which is exactly what we wanted: to celebrate, especially in times when celebration can feel like going against the current. Now Carlota, Virginia and Rafa have made this video around a choreography that could be described as an experimental Macarena: a live happening with nine dancers and four palmeras, performed under Yerai’s voyeuristic gaze on a hot August afternoon in Barcelona’s iconic Plaça Catalunya. The thrill, pride and warmth we felt throughout Silver Lining are still very much with us. Thank you to everyone who joined us at @navelamosca this past weekend, shared their time, their thoughts and their curiosity. This project is the result of something we deeply believe in: creating space for personal work, experimentation and collaboration. Built through months of conversation, energy and collective investment between CAP and its represented artists, and powered by CAP’s commitment to nurturing creativity beyond commissioned work, Silver Lining is what can happen when we come together in a common vision. This exhibition reminded us that even in times of noise and uncertainty, there is still beauty, meaning and possibility to be found together.
