🏈 When you are a 40-year-old football player and in your 18th season with the Carolina Panthers as long snapper J.J. Jansen is, things change.

Coaches. Teammates. Owners.

Good seasons. Not-so-good seasons.

Time, however, remains the constant.

“(Defensive end) Nick Scourton came up to me last year and he goes, ‘How old are you?’ I said, ‘I’m 39.’ He goes, ‘Man, my mom’s younger than you.’ I’m like, holy smokes,” Jansen says, sitting in an empty suite deep inside Bank of America Stadium, his workplace for nearly two decades.

Jansen has played in more games than any player in franchise history (226 at the start of this season). While his teammates seem perpetually in their 20s, he’s older than six NFL head coaches and still snapping footballs.

It is a happy by-product of being so reliable and so relatable that Jansen has turned an uncommon skill — being a long snapper — into a career that has made him as much a part of the @panthers franchise as Sir Purr and a genuine part of the community.

He grew up in Phoenix, but Charlotte is home. He and wife, Laura, and their four kids have deep roots here now.

Quarterback Bryce Young may be the face of the franchise, but @44doublej is also a known personality for the team. He’s built a loyal audience with his Cart Talk video series, in which he drives a cart around the stadium with players and coaches, offering them a chance to show a different side of themselves.

He has a stake in other teams, too. Keep reading about “Mr. Jansen,” as some teammates call him, from writer Ron Green Jr.

And GO Panthers!
